Back In The Day.

Modern kitchens certainly do not look anything like those from back in the day. In a modern kitchen, you will see a counter lined with all kinds of appliances designed to make food preparation much easier for the person who does the cooking , cleaning etc. So imagine if you were back in the 1920's - which three appliances would you miss the most. For me it would be my Blender , Microwave and and Toaster. I know there are lots of other items out there that l have never used - therefore l won't miss them. What would you miss? Microwave for sure. An electric skillet I would have no use for. I guess I could do without the coffee pot to some extent. They still had percolators back in the day.

I have never seen an electric skillet. I should get one - it would be very convenient.

@Kandae11 I hardly ever use the microwave oven. I don´t like the way that dishes with wheat turn out.

Could I count the fridge? That would be number one. And now I have a tiny over the counter electric oven that means that I don´t have to bend to use the oven. The third one is a sort of blender. Here it is called mini pimer. As I don´t know the name in other countries I´ll send the picture

Okay. There's one I had not thought of. YES. The fridge—AND the freezers. I am not sure many people had those then like we do now. I'd be a mess without those things.

@porwest I came across a big freezer not many years ago. But the fridge has its freezer of course. Funny that when I bought the freezer I thought that I would never fill it. Now I wish I could make room for a pint of ice cream

I meant small appliances , but yes we could count the fridge and also dishwasher . Some people would be lost without a dishwasher - l have never used one. I had a toaster oven once which was very convenient. That mini blender is so cute.

Okay, you got me too. I originally commented I could not think of anything because I don't really use many appliances. But here was another one. YES. The microwave. I could not live without mine either and they definitely did not have those in the 20s.

Definitely the microwave. I think that's the only one. I remember my parents had one of those manual meat grinders. I think they're still around. We had a blender when I was growing up, but I don't think they had them back in the 1920s, so probably the blender too. Though I don't use it as much as I do the microwave. I gave away my toaster since I no longer eat bread.

@Kandae11 I gave away my coffee pot when I moved. I never used it. I don't drink coffee. It was easy for me to give up bread.

I gave away my percolator when I stopped drinking coffee. I would find it very hard to give up bread - so l eat only multigrain or what l bake myself.

I would miss the coffee percolator too. Just the smell of that coffee satisfies my senses. Anyway it would be a problems if l still drank coffee , l gave away my percolator some years ago - got rid of the temptation.

Believe it or not, we tossed microwave usage about a decade ago! I'm trying to think of 3, but I can't . . . I don't use too many appliances often. If stove/oven counts, I'd definitely miss that. The modern refrigerator. And electric hand mixer.

@Kandae11 For us, it started as an experiment to see how we could live without . . . and then it just became a way of life to heat/reheat on the stove or oven. It seems other countries have banned microwaves - but not here.
