Adrift on the Canal… Almost

Boat blocks canal

Our windy weather does not seem to have caused much damage, but it did loosen this boat’s mooring line. At this time of the year there isn’t much traffic along the canal and most boats are moored up for the winter. In summer you can only stay on the bank side for a week or so, but over winter the restrictions are relaxed and several weeks are allowed. Some folks park up their boat and return to a land based home, only nipping back to move the boat when required. I am wondering if anyone will move the boat back to the bank as they could open themselves up to a legal case if the boat is damaged or causes damage to another boat, if it breaks free again.

Oh my - this one is blocking the canal! Yah, it better be moved or else folks can use it as a bridge .

@Ronrybs @much2say When we moored on the Shannon River in Ireland it was expected that boats would moor next to one another and you might walk across several to get to the decking. I found that quite bizarre and felt embarrassed walking over other people's decks. lol

Hadn't thought of that, a quick bridge. I was standing under the road bridge, but the flats on the left have a bit of trek to get to it, so a boat bridge could well be handy!

I wonder if the owner knows that his/her boat is blocking the canal. When there is a windy day, I always tour the garden to be sure that nothing have damaged the properties of my neighbors.

@Ronrybs I think that the canal people already fixed the problem.

@LadyDuck Likely, as soon as someone wanted to head off to either London or the Midlands

Hopefully the owners will be keeping an eye for it, Most likely the canal people have sorted it out

If gets wedged it shouldn't be able to get too far. Hopefully sorted out by now... or maybe it is halfway to the North Sea!

I am not sure how something like that would work.

Just pushed along by the wind, on a calm day it probably wouldn't have moved

I did wonder if it could get wedged, as it looked longer than the canal's width. Sure it worked out in the end!

I hope someone contacts the boat owners to let them know the boat was blocking the canal.

I wonder whether it was the wind, or some malicious passer-by? I hope they got it safely back. Those boats weigh about 40 tons so they can do a whole load of damage if they smash into some little fibreglass cruiser, for example!

I remember wondering about that. It had been quite windy and it was the only one attempting a getaway. Have to say I don't fancy being smashed by 40 ton-ish boat!

Yikes, someone is missing their boat it seems. That needs to be out of the way soon.
