Supplements or food?

Lots is being said about foods that supply the right kind of nutrition. I agree. But can one eat that food every day?. Is that food available round the year? These questions need to be answered before choosing food over supplements. Supplements on the other hand provide the kind of nutrients they are meant for I would like to eat tasty food, food that does not harm me in any way but food is to be enjoyed and not just had because it keeps us in good health but not possible for reasons mentioned above. How do you balance your diet that ensures tasty food that suits your pallet at the same time provides the required nutrients? Image credit: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Chinese_buffet2.jpg

We have seen my husband's doctor this morning. He discussed the blood tests they made last week, all the vitamins and minerals are perfect. He asked me if I can cook for him.

Does that mean your husband gets his nutrients from the food you cook for him? Great!!!

@allknowing - Exactly, the only supplement he needs is the Vitamin D, because in winter he does not go out enough.

You do not have to taste the supplements as most come in the form of capsules

Being a vegetarian who doesn’t eat a super healthy diet I always take vitamins. I take iron and a multivitamin.

Supplements do make up what we do not get from food

We eat well balanced diets, but our pharmacist friend recommended a multivitamin which can’t hurt. That’s all I take besides a calcium supplement.

I admit I don't always get to eat the "right" kinds of food and that is where these supplements come in for me. I try to eat healthy as much as possible and in moderation. My diet is rice/pasta as those are our staple food but I only eat a cup or half a cup, l eat more of chicken, eggs, fish and vegetables, less on meat like pork or beef. We usually eat it like once or twice a month only. I don't get to eat fruits often especially now that I don't get to go to the market as frequent as I used to. Now we go a week without fruits. I'm not into desserts like cakes, ice creams or sweets in general, sodas and chips. I like them once in a while so I seldom eat those. I take multivitamins and mineral and some specific supplements daily. Probiotics a few times a week.

You are right. We cannot get to eat healthy foods right through the year and it is therefore necessary that we rely on supplements

I like eating more than taking supplements. Of course, I'm sure that it's not just enough to eat healthily. I also need to take some supplements.

That seems a good balance. One has to depend on supplements as well.

The only problem is you must get to eat what you eat every day
