The United States needs age limits set for political positions.

The US truly needs to establish some age restrictions. I am of the personal opinion that 70 years of age is the highest limit it should be to hold office in the House of Representatives or the Senate, as well as the President, Vice-President, and so forth. We also need to consider the ages of Supreme Court Justices, and make those positions the same, age 70. It's not like these people hold these offices for money, anyway. Most are attorneys and were making a good living before they took office. I feel like many of them hold on to their positions, if possible, because they are power hungry. I went on a google search earlier, as I had been reading about needed age limits in another group. It seems I am not alone in my thinking this is badly needed. Yes, Biden is too old for the job, and so is Trump. Power hungry or no, I find it rather odd that anyone who could retire well and enjoy life with their loved ones and don't do that, are silly, but that is just my opinion. Life is so short, why would you want to work in your late 70's-early 80's, if you didn't have to? But I know there are others who want to work until they croak, I'm just not one of those people. According to data I have tracked while I was reading about this today, 61 in the House are between 70-80, and 16 are over 80. In the Senate, 5 are over 80 years old, 20 are between 70-80. Yes, most don't seem to be affected a lot by their ages. I have to wonder that some of them even still want to be there, but I am sure they are either thinking they make a difference, don't want to be at home all day, or just want power and/or money. I don't know as I don't live that lifestyle. So, do you think there should be age limits?

Since these people are elected to office it's the electorate who decides. They are in office because they are elected by the people.

New laws can be enacted, and new regulations can be established. When laws no longer work well, they need to be changed.

@florelway exactly, it's the people who put up them there in the highest position.

I think if we have mandatory retirement ages for most jobs, then maybe we should consider the same thing for political positions too.

Most definitely! It needs to be made a priority with the powers that be, and land on a ballot if necessary. It's way past time for this.

I think so. When you get that age, you should retire. Perhaps it is power.

Power, position, in a few cases some of them believe they are irreplaceable, I'm sure. Maybe they are. But after 70, it's really time to give someone else a chance.

I think we need term limits also. That would keep new ideas going in.

I think people should retire and enjoy their retirement; but making them retire at a certain age...isn't that age discrimination?

Maybe it is. I didn't think about age discrimination. The fact that some of these people stay in office way, way past their prime, and it's a very, very demanding job, just seems to be too much for some of these older people.

@LindaOHio I would, too. No way would I want to work when I was 80 if I didn't have to.

Totally agree with you on this issue. Too many have been in office way too long. I have said this to many over the years.

I know on many board of directors, like banks, etc. they have age limits. I think most people realize it's a necessary thing to do.

Some people are old before their time, some might be old in years but they are sharp to the end. But being high up in office is mentally exhausting as well as physically, it needs to be a younger person than 80 years old.

That may very well be true in some cases, but it's past time to set some limits.

But old is gold they're experts knowledgeable and experienced. They won't anymore aspire to corrupt, whereas the young ones are.

Not all young people are corrupt. Not all older people are honest or reliable. We do need some guidelines at this point.
