Musk Gets The Last Laugh

Let me simply start by saying that Tesla's stock has long been overvalued. And by a heap ton. Before the stock crashed roughly 60% in value, the market cap of Tesla was bigger than Ford, GM, Honda and Toyota—combined. In most worlds, that's just crazy. But the "adjustment," if you will, that sent the stock plummeting, was based more on politics of course than true investor sentiment overall, and the true value of the company. Despite it being wildly overvalued. I want to make that clear. That being said, I did say that if one wanted to be invested in the company, the dip may have been a good time to add shares or enter into a position. Because while I do not necessarily believe Tesla may be the future of cars, it is still a highly transformative company, and the company you are buying today may be just the tip of the iceberg. In other words, maybe the highly overvalued market cap actually makes sense. Remember. When you are buying a company you are not buying what it is worth today. You are buying what it will be worth in the future. Disclosure: I do not currently own shares in Tesla, for reasons I will not discuss here. But I do own shares of Rivian and Ford. Today, Elon Musk had the last laugh on the folks angry about his Twitter takeover who saw fit to try to hurt him by unloading shares of Tesla stock. His company reported record revenue and record beats on earnings. The company's stock did not jump all that wildly. Not that it matters. And that's part of my point. The company matters more than the politics of the owner, nor the sentiment of the investors. Granted, customers could lash out and not buy the cars. But according to the numbers put out today? That is to be seen. What Elon Musk effectively gets to do today is to at least smirk at all those people that walked away from something potentially far more valuable than their ideology and say, "Your move next. What were you trying to tell me?" The thing is, and I point this out all the time, is that conservative values outnumber liberal ones. Even among democrats, more are more conservative than most think when you really get down to the brass tacks. They always win the hearts, minds and attention of people going down a more conservative line. And Tesla might actually win bigger than expected as a result. Just like companies like Hobby Lobby did and Chick-Fil-A did. When they espoused and stood fast and firm on their conservative values, customers rewarded them and made them much larger than they were before their conservative values were public. For that reason alone, Tesla might be the best company to buy in 2023. But I suppose we will have to wait and see. I am personally not still a buyer here because my interests lie in other companies. But the point remains—and I will definitely be watching it very closely.

So far, Tesla is doing well here that is for sure. People that just arrived here in this country drive them..for Uber. They have a partnership with Uber..Tesla does.

See, thing is, here's this guy who has amassed more money than anyone in the entire world, and people continue to want to suggest... He's stupid. Meanwhile others are scrambling to sell things to pay off debts. lol Sure, Musk may have lost his status as the richest man in the world for now...but he'll have it all back and then some. Mark my words.

@porwest I don't know why people think Elon is stupid. By no means is he.

@RebeccasFarm Most of the people calling him that are democrats, honestly, and they are only calling him stupid because his views have been leaning conservative. When he was on THEIR side they thought he was brilliant and saving the world with his electric cars.

Playing the long game. I am sure it'll continue to do well. While Twitter has become a dumpster fire, the man does know something.

I am not so sure it is a dumpster fire. I think it may have been on fire before and now we're just dousing the flames and have to deal with a bit of smoke until things cool off. But allowing ALL voices to speak and have a voice can't be a bad thing.

@porwest I agree. Like the company, not necessarily a fan of the product.

Me either, personally. I only admire the company, not the product. I can't deny the success story, especially considering what a man like Elon Musk, who didn't even start the company, has been able to accomplish with it.

@moffittjc That is one of the joys of investing. You don't have to like the product. You only have to enjoy the profits.

and now Wyoming wants to outlaw electric cars to own the libs. Red state against electric cars. Yeah that is a thing and is going to become more prominent in the future. Musk bet on the wrong American political party.

Don't count your chickens just yet. Conservatives are RESPONDING to liberal agendas, and because liberal agendas lose time and time again... There is a strategy here that Musk still knows how to win. Mark my words.

No doubt about that. It is part of the reason, in the EV space, I am more interested in what Ford and Rivian are doing.

I guess laws about old battery from EV have bigger affect on Tesla shares than Elon as shareholder.

@porwest Many people talk what we should do with batterys from EV. It can't be recycled so new law must decide how to solve this problem. Most batterys have warranty for 10 years. What will happend later with it, nobody can't say for sure.

Consumer response is really going to be the driver, pardon the pun. So, that's the thing to watch. Sales and orders. If they show signs of major upticks—which they seem to be at the moment—and that is a trend that continues... It will be a very telling tell.

Tesla is a very expensive car in my country but it is a company where I would buy some shares if I could.

Musk is a very smart man no matter what anybody else thinks. He has not burned down Twitter. What a joke. We shall see what the future holds.
