Another day, another Disney song! That theme continues here in the top ten of my favorite songs that were nominated for Academy Awards throughout the years. In March I’ll be doing more movie songs, focusing then on songs that either weren’t nominated (wait until you see one of them that wasn’t!!) or weren’t considered “original” and didn’t get the nomination. Meanwhile, sing along with this one. #6: Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah - James Baskett I have to tell you: I watched this again last year, and I don’t see the overt racism. Word to the “woke ‘wise’”: WE talk like that. Not just the Blacks in the South; we all say “sho’nuf”! To me, the biggest complaint would have been from the Klan, who didn’t like the idea of white kids making friends with a black man! However, for whatever reason, this has gone the way of the Kate Smith statues because it’s “racist.” If you follow Jeff (@moffittjc ) you know he’s a Disney World fan, and he recently reported that Splash Mountain, which had characters from Song of the South, has closed. And that’s sad because it’s a great movie. This song won the “Best Original Song” Oscar, and James Baskett was the first African-American man to win an Oscar, when he was given an honorary Oscar for his role as Uncle Remus. When Song of the South had its premiere in Atlanta Baskett couldn’t attend. The theater was segregated. Unfortunately, Baskett was in poor health, suffering from diabetes. He died of heart failure related to the disease shortly after winning his Oscar. He was just 44 years old. In addition to Uncle Remus, he was Gabby Gibson on the Amos ‘n’ Andy radio program. What a wonderful song. Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah Written by Allie Wrubel and Ray Gilbert Recorded by James Baskett Oscar Winner From Song of the South, 1947 Mister bluebird on my shoulder:

Another cute song. Such a shame to close the ride at Disney over a non-issue in my opinion.

The movie has been hidden away for generations now, so people are just taking someone else’s word for it that it’s a bad movie.

@FourWalls No, Disney is just looking for reasons to shut things down. Not the same Disney I used to know.

The attacks on this movie from certain quarters is ridiculous. It was a great movie, and this was a fun, uplifting song that is a ball to sing.

That movie generally made me smile (except when the kid got hurt, but Disney said he always wanted to interject some bad stuff in his movies).

I am so happy to hear this once again Four Walls. Lucky, we never thought about any of that stuff when we were kids. Just playing together, no matter what.

Yes, those were the days. “God bless little children while they’re still too young to hate,” as Tom T. Hall put it in a song.

This was a wonderful Disney movie. I had a very hard time finding this movie on DVD, for a moment I thought it was one of those "banned" for the very stupid actual rules about racism.

Such a wonderful song! One of my favorite memories from riding Splash Mountain at Disney World, listening to that song towards the end of the ride.

I remember the movie and the song. Both are great! It's a shame so much stupidity is going around today to call everything that's normal, as racist.

Real racism (e.g., James Baskett not being allowed into the theater to see the movie he starred in) and crying wolf over something (a coach didn’t get hired by a football team so he’s claiming it’s racist) are as different as night and day.

I can't believe some of the laws we had back then. I think it was Nat King Cole came to Australia and couldn't stay in some hotel because of his colour. I mean, really??

Disney had so many Oscar nominated songs in their movies and this was a terrific one Disney was a big fan of nonsensical phrases. "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"

She did a song in 1930 or so that people found out about three or four years ago and had her statue in Philly removed, along with the use of her singing “God Bless America.” Moronic thinking.
