Is it worth a doctor's visit?

That's the question I've been asking myself for a few days now. Here's why. On Tuesday, I was in the backyard playing with Sophie. I looped the ball over the fence. It landed close enough to the fence that I thought I could reach it. While reaching over the fence, I slipped on the wet leaves alongside the fence and fell hard with my ribs hitting the top rail. I felt something pop inside and it hurt like the dickens for a few minutes, but the pain eased enough that I could continue playing with Sophie. There was no discoloration or swelling, and I've had no trouble breathing. Just some pain when turn or bend certain ways. The area that hit the fence is also tender to the touch. K says I should see a doctor. I say I am not going to waste the copay for a doctor's visit just to be told I have a bruised or cracked rib and there's nothing they can do about it except recommend rest and pain killers. Am I being a typical stubborn male, or am I right not to waste my time and money, not to mention exposure to all the virus shedding patients in the waiting room?

Since it's still bothering you it would be better to have it checked. Wrapping could help some

I am becoming more and more convinced a doctor's visit will be necessary. I just hate to think of the wasted time in the waiting room. Not to mention the exposure to the viral load of all the sick people.

@DWDavis It's better than not going if it is more than just bruised

@wolfgirl569 The ribs are feeling much better this morning. Not as tender and I can stretch and turn without them hurting. It's early in the day. I'll see how they feel once I'm fully awake.

Do you feel better today? If not, it is better to see a doctor to see what's wrong.

Things feel much better this morning after a good night's sleep. I'm going to wait some before I decide.

This is what K keeps saying. If it is the same or worse in the morning, I might head to the local immediate care clinic, but I'll wear double masks and try not to touch anything.

If it really hurts it would be better to see a doctor. I know what you mean about exposure to all the viruses while waiting. My husband already had to go four times in two weeks for testing at the hospital, I stayed with him and I HATED waiting for him with people around coughing and sneezing. At least we must wear a mask at the hospital.

It isn't hurting nearly as much this morning. If the aching and twinges return as I become more active, I'll probably go in.

Probably a good diagnosis, but I would want to be certain.

You're probably right. It's just that I hate spending time at a doctor's office. Especially now with all the nasty viruses making the rounds.

@DWDavis Right, in Oregon, masks are still required in medical settings.

That is the kind of thing I would do. Both the fall and avoiding the doctor. Do good self care and see where it leads you, since none of the symptoms are life threatening at this time.

I think you are right not to bother going in if there is likely nothing they can do anyway besides tell you if you have broken anything. I hope it feels better soon though!

They shouuld do an X ray there. And then, they will do nothing, I suppose. But maybe it could be something worse. That what doctors are for.

I'd probably be waiting a day or two more and see what develops.

The major twinges have subsided and I can stretch and bend without pain this morning. I think I'll hold off until later today before I decide about the doctor.

Wear your mask and check it out. Better to be safe than sorry.
