I caught her at it

Bitty needs to be spayed and she has an appointment this week. She has been used to going out, running across the yard and then coming back in the mornings and afternoons. Sometimes she stays gone all day if it is only Bob at home. One day last week she was gone all day, so she has not been getting out even for a run. Last night I caught her standing on the end table, trying to figure out how to turn the door knob. She was batting it with her front paws. Nothing she does surprises me anymore.

I had a cat who learned how to press a button to open the screen door. She not only let herself out, but the two other cats and the dog!

@wolfgirl569 When I was very young my dad put a pull type handle down low for my little brother to come in from the back yard, through the garage. We had a cat that learned to open that door by pulling the handle.

@GardenGerty One did learn to open an inside door. But it had fancy looking ones that stuck to the side. So she just had to grab and her weight did the rest. I did have a dog that learned to open regular round doorknobs

She is smart! We had a cat that used to be able to open some of the doors here. He would hang on the handle and somehow it managed to come open and he would get out. It was impressive.

I could see that happening with certain types of handles.

@GardenGerty this was a very old round one that had a metal button you push in to lock it. It had been on there since I was little or before that and it finally broke about two years ago.

@GardenGerty .........We took two of our momma kittie's first and last littler. Now having five we feel that is enough for now. The young ones are handful.

If she's old enough she could be in heat, females will try anything to get laid.

Yes she is in heat. At night I hear the "big boys" wandering around and howling. Zeus, who is getting a different name from me, is neutered. He is not interested.

You're probably gonna be 'blessed' with kittens in about 63 days.

I was going to do this in October, but Bob was in the hospital. Then I hit a deer with my car then my sister got sick. Just one thing after another.

Bitty obviously knows that it's the door handle that is the key to freedom. They are clever little creatures.

Glad you have her scheduled to be spayed. They are smart little creatures. I love watching videos of them when they figure out how to open/close doors.

I know some cats are good at using latches, but not sure how many can actually open door knobs, They don't have the right grip.

I can see that it would depend on if it is a round knob or a lever style designed for those who have a hard time.

@GardenGerty Did she succeed in figuring out how to open the door? I am also not surprised with things my cat does too.
