Several years ago, for Christmas, our sons gave my wife a miniature hydroponic herb garden. Each fall, after the last of our outdoor herbs have been harvested, she starts the indoor garden. As you can see, it is fairing very well. Do you enjoy fresh herbs in your cooking?

That looks SOO good. Even if they weren't usable, just the patch of healthy greenery looks great.

We don't have much in the way of indoor plants, so it is nice when these provide a little green to the house.

@JudyEv We've been better about trimming them back when they get too big. Our first year, we let some of the plants get much too large and they choked out other plants.

I do, I just don't have the green thumb or the patience to grow them, myself.

@DWDavis Everything I tried to grow, didn't last. I forgot they existed.

The hydroponic garden in the photo takes very little in the way of actual gardening skill.

Nice, I want to try hydroponics as well, but setting one up around here is simply too pricey. In your situation, when you are unable to continue planting outdoors due to the weather, I believe that is practical.

Yes, we love them! My wife was thinking of getting one of those. It's good to know it works well.

This is our third or fourth winter using it, and we've had a good crop every year.

@DWDavis Those herbs are not grown here. I buy coriander leaves (cilantro) I do not know the name of that herb that grows in my garden which is good for enhancing memory

K loves having fresh herbs to add to her cooking, and they do add something to the flavor you can't get from store bought.

I would like to have more, but we camp so often and sometimes for so long, the plants rarely survive our absence.

We had a big kitchen garden for a few years when we lived in the house on the farm where my wife grew up. Where we live now, with us both working, we haven't been able to grow as much of our own vegetables, but we do what we can.

@DWDavis I prefer a kitchen garden because you know the food which you eat

That looks lush! I have some parsley, basil and Vietnamese coriander on the windowsill but they never do very well over winter, they can barely hang on until warmer sunnier days come again!
