Oh, goodie. Jacksonville has a Chuy’s. It’s also a little warmer here than it was on the panhandle. But that’s for later. Right now, you want a theme song from a television series, and you shall get one! Here’s today’s song. The Fishin’ Hole - Andy Griffith One of the most iconic television series in American history, The Andy Griffith Show also possessed one of the most iconic themes. And yes, it had lyrics. And yes, Andy Griffith recorded it and released it as a single. So whistle along while you’re dodging one of Ernest T. Bass’s rocks. The Fishin’ Hole Written by Earl Hagan and Herbert W. Spencer Recorded by Andy Griffith From The Andy Griffith Show, 1960-68 Scratchin’ at his fleas:

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! Such a wonderful show, we still watch it. Television needs to get back to the basics in family shows instead of the junk they are putting out nowadays.

It’s amazing how this show has as many fan clubs as something like Star Trek. And it’s probably because it’s such a quality, wholesome show.

I’ve learned a little secret….you don’t have to fish at the fishin’ hole, you can just sit there and whistle.

@FourWalls That's what I do. The only big drawback is that I have to hide every time the game warden goes by because it's illegal to not fish in Iowa.

@FourWalls Way ahead of you. And fishing works pretty much the same way here but you have to have a pole and at least fake it. Here, buying the fish on the way home is mostly just to keep the Significant Other fooled. Otherwise, they tend to think the "Fishing trip" was just an excuse to get away and drink.

You don’t remember the whistling at the beginning while Opie threw a rock into the lake?

@FourWalls Maybe... I didn't really pay attention until the show actually started. I was more interested in my book-of-the-day.

Loved the show and always heard that song so even if I was not looking directly at the TV I knew it came for Griffith's show,

You hear that whistling and you can see Andy and Opie walking down the gravel path, even if you don’t have a TV!

I remember this show and the theme very well. Opie turned into a fine director.

He did indeed! He’s really made more of a name for himself as a director!

Growing up, I always thought my dad had more than a passing resemblance to Andy. They were both North Carolina boys, though Andy was from the western part of the state and my dad was from the east. Dad could whistle the theme song, but I don't remember him ever singing the words. I didn't remember the song had words until I heard Andy sing "Get down your fishing pole." Then, it all came back.

@FourWalls I'm hoping to camp near there for a week or two after I retire. Like you, I've been through but never to Mt. Airy.

As Buford T. Justice said, not watching Andy is just plain old-fashioned communism!

Who knew that whistle had lyrics to it And yes, what a great and recognizable theme song it is. Plus, a classic show! I bet Opie could give Ernest T a good rock throwing challenge.
