I ate some pineapple.

The dining room where the pineapple was had a wonderful aroma so I thought that the pineapple I had bought was ripe. I cut part of the pineapple and placed the rind and the hard center in a big pot. I washed it and filled it with water. Now it is simmering on the stove. The pineapple juice made with the rind and the hard core is one of the most delicious juices I have tasted. And it can be done at home for almost nothing. I only ate about 1/3 of the pineapple so I did not take the rind off the rest. I´ll just make juice as I eat the pineapple. The rind has to be simmered for a long time so that all the delicious flavor leaves the rind and gets into the water. Do you make juices at home?

I wouldn’t want to use the rind to make juice as there can be bacteria and pesticides on the rind but I should try to make some with the hard core. How do you know how much water to put in and how to know it is done being cooked?

Any rind (including tomatoes and peaches can have pesticides. Part are washed away and all the bacteria are cooked. I justput a lot of water and let it simmer until the smell tells me that it is delicious. If you only use the core you have to use less water.

@marguicha I peel peaches but good point as I do eat cherry tomatoes. I didn’t know cooking it will kill the bacteria.

@shaggin Cooking kills many (not all) unhealthy things. But it also takes away some of the vitamins from food. So this juice is not as healthy as a fresh one but it is cold and delicious. It is like I steam many veggies instead of cooking them and don´t overcook them.

@JudyEv Anyway, you have to peel the rind off. So instead of throwing the rind away boil it in lots of water for a long time. Sieve, add sugar and boil it a bit more so that the sugar "melts" and cool.

@marguicha Certainly sounds like there is nothing to it - or very little anyway.

I usually have fresh fruit juices. But this is made by cooking the pineapple rind, passing it through a sieve, adding sugar (or sugar substitute) and boil it a while longer with the sugar.

I almost never buy ready juices. I can make mine for less than half of the price and as I am retired I have the time.

I enjoy eating pineapple. Some say it is sour, for me, I enjoy eating the sour sometimes sweet pineapple.
