Celebrities Are Overrated

I have always thought that celebrities were overrated. I just don't understand celebrity worship. They are not super humans. They are just regular people, like the rest of us. They just happen to make a whole lot more money than the majority. I was watching a Bible story video on youtube with a couple of my grandkids and an ad came on for electic vehicles. Kevin Bacon was the one promoting this product. He was downright goofy and weird in this advertisement, but it made me wonder how many would want to go out and buy and electric care because Kevin Bacon said so. Personally, that would make me more against the vehicles than I already am. I am defiant when it comes to people trying to manipulate me. I would rather do my own homework before buying a product or buying into an idea. I know so many, though, that are easily manipulated because they are awestruck. I just don't get it. This is a topic I will revisit. I need to do some research.

There are a few actors that I admire. But I don't let my admiration for them dictate what I am going to buy. I buy what I want and what is on sale.

Yea, if it is not on sale, I will not make the purchase. And I try not to buy from China.

I think I may have to agree with your post. There are some celebrities such as the K- Pop idols who are treated like God. Their fans especially the die-hard ones are willing to overspend their money to buy their merchandises, go to their concert, even some I heard who follows them everywhere, even bribe their managers/staff to know where are these celebs going, and that until the airport into the plane. That's scary though.

I know teen girls who have paid $1000 to go see BTS. And there are teenagers who lie to their parents so they can go to concerts. It is a very dangerous thing.

@Adie04 That kind of money would pay several bills or feed us for a couple of tmonths. And that does not include the money they spend on downloading music and buying memorabilia. For me, there is no celebrity worth me spending that kind of money.

@gnatsmom Indeed it is. It is not wrong to like them, but it would be very, very dangerous once you prioritise them as if they are God or something over themselves. $1000? I can even use that to feed myself for a year or so.

It seems as you say, celebrities must add their name to something a brand to promote it, to make even more money. It also would not influence me to buy.

I am the same. I find celebrities to be "interesting," but I do not worship them, nor would I fall over meeting one. Like you said, they are just people. And on top of that, "their word" carries no greater weight than any other person's word. In fact, it might carry less weight.
