Do not directly or indirectly suggest people should read more of what you post.

February 19, 2023 7:40am CST
I would like everyone to stop using part of your discussions to suggest more of your own discussions to other users. This includes saying 'click the tag to see more posts like this'. Tag usage is plainly explained in the FAQ section. myLotBugs (the owner of the site) removed the option to suggest your own posts several years ago, and trying to be sneaky about working around it does tend to aggravate me. So simply stop. Please. With sugar on it. I'm trying to be nice. It is my paid job to administrate this site. I don't want to be mean, but when I ask anyone to please not do something, that doesn't mean I want excuses. It means please stop. Please. M'kay?

I only add the link to another one of my posts when someone asks me something that I have just written. I don´t think you are mean

I do the same. I never "promote" anything because I don't see the point. But if sharing a link to another post is relevant to my comment or in direct response to a question, then I feel it is appropriate. Admin is free to offer clarification on that, of course.

Sugar? I need antacid. LOL Kidding. I didn't notice such posts, but I am not here as often. My friends don't resort to such things. I used to do something like that...kinda, the post was sorta continuation of the previous one...2nd point, 3rd point...and so on. I wondered whether that was allowed.

You are nice. I never do unless someone asks or is lost about something I am talking about. Please let us know if that is okay as I see a couple of others have mentioned doing that

@wolfgirl569 when it says “indirectly” that’s the part I’m nervous of accidentally breaking a rule. Directly I can figure out but I need things very clear and I’m not sure if some things I see people say are okay or not .

@wolfgirl569 I understand and am wondering too. I’m assuming it’s still not allowed even if it helps them find something they want to know about. I’m just speculating until we get an answer from the moderator.

@shaggin I understand not mentioning to go to my tags. But I have copied the address to one of mine when asked about something that it would answer. That I am not sure about

Thank you for the clarification. And thanks to @LadyDuck for the suggestion. But can I just ask - you mean we should never ever refer a reader to any other of our own posts? I know I have sometimes done this because I write something that is related to a previous post. For example earlier this year I wrote quite a long post about how annoyed I was at losing my favourite ever story CD. And then a couple of days later I wrote another long post all about the lengths I had gone to to replace it, and I mentioned that this followed on from my earlier post and included a link. Was this wrong? Should I not have provided the link? Should I not have mentioned that I had written about the lost CD before? Should I have repeated the whole story again at the start? Or added it at the end as an addendum for those who were interested? And if I did that would I fall foul of the rules against copying, because half the text would be the same as the previous discussion? Or should I not have written discussions that were on related subjects at all? Sorry, I don't do this to try to tempt readers to more of my discussions, but just to save repeating myself and provide the necessary background to whatever I'm talking about, so I'm just a bit confused.

@Fleura sometimes it’s confusing trying to figure out what’s okay and what isn’t. Usually what I do is instead of making another post about the same issue I go back to the first post and just update people in the comments. For instance I wrote about what was keeping me away from myLot. One thing was a reading challenge. So after the challenge was over I went back to that post and told the results to some of those who commented to tell them how many minutes we read. I don’t think most people do that though.

@Fleura oh gosh yeah that all sounds like too much trouble and then your last line saying “see my response to so and so” I’m not sure if that would be allowed or not. Im starting to feel mind boggled

@shaggin I see what you mean, but the follow-up was a story of more than 350 words, so I would have had to add that as a response to a comment - and presumably respond to every comment, but I couldn't really add the exact same response to every comment so I would need to re-write the 350 words into a different version to respond to each comment. Or I suppose I could just respond to one comment and then in response to each of the others I could write 'see my response to so-and-so' - or would that not be allowed either?

Fine with this ! Does this also means that one cannot share one's own Mylot post link in another post? What if one has a Series of connected posts? E.g - "Trip to Xyz part 1..", "... Part 2..." and so on.

I think you are doing your job and not being mean. I sometimes use the link of my posts written earlier if I have some references to me made in my current post. Sometimes even send link of others post. Is that not allowed? If so, I will not do it. Thank you@LadyDuck for suggesting this.
