Fan nearly went on fire

Yesterday Night I went to the living room because I smell something burning. I thought my aunt was just done ironing clothes.
It turns it was the fan, blades stop circling. Then the switch under somehow melted and the motor is hot.
Not sure if I still wanted to have it fixed. My other aunt suggested to just buy a new one. Why not.

Please, please buy a new fan! I think you were blessed to get a warning before you had a bad fire.

I think it is better to buy a new one. If I am the one using the fixed electric fan, I will not have peace of mind. Especially when sleeping.

the fee for repairing anything these days, sometimes is more than if we just go getting a new item from the store! (I am having a tiny bit of problem with my sewing machine right now, but considering that it was bought 30 yrs ago, I will just live with it for as long as possible.)

Sometimes it's better to buy a new one than having the old one repaired again and again. However, it's also frustrating that most electric fans today only have 1 year warranty and you have to take it to their authorized service center to avail of the free labor and parts. So it's not worth the time, expense and effort. I just take it to the repair shops here in our neighborhood.
