What? Is that green I see in the grass????? Hooray!! Yes, a week after getting home from two weeks in warm, wonderful Florida I’m starting to see the earliest hints of spring here in the Ohio Valley!
Of course, I’m feeling them, too: allergies.
It was pretty bad in Florida, too. I went through a car wash while down there because there was a layer of pollen on the hood of my car.
No trips for a couple of weeks. I have three appointments in the next ten days. One is just labs for drawing blood. The other two are the scheduled appointment with my VA doctor and my semi-annual visit with my favorite comedian, my dermatologist.
He really is a funny guy. He’s been working for about 47 years, so I’m worried that one day I’m going to walk in and they’ll say he’s retiring.
I also have to get the oil changed in the car. I usually joke that I’ll see them after the next trip or in two weeks, whichever comes first.
(I haven’t owned my car for three years yet and it has over 60,000 miles on it…or what “they” say is “normal” for five years of ownership. Well, let’s face it, the last thing ANYONE would accuse me of being is “normal.”
)
Tomorrow I get to call the finance company that gave me the same-as-cash loan for my roof and close that down.
No bills next month, just the four utilities! I’ll enjoy it before the next thing breaks down.
(Remember, “homeowner problems” is redundant: if you own a home, you’ll have problems!!)
The trip has pretty much solidified the fact that I’m now retired from playing Putt Putt. My back is still griping at me, although not nearly as much. I look at my membership fees for this year as a donation to the cause. But there’s simply no way to drive 300 miles to a course (Fort Wayne) THEN play golf for three days (a practice day and two days of tournaments), then drive home. Not unless I can find a good price for a new back on eBay.
Don’t cry. I had a great run in my 20 years of playing. And I won the last tournament I played!!!
All told, I won the state title in 2014, player of the year for our tour twice, and fifteen other state tournaments (and a number of local tourneys). That’s pretty darn good, considering that I started playing professionally in 2001 and didn’t finish somewhere other than dead last until 2007.
I’ll definitely still be there for my brothers (I’m still the only female player in our tour), cheering them on and harassing them.
(Seriously, if you ever stumbled onto a course while we were playing or practicing you would swear that a major fistfight or gun battle was about to break out, the way we kid one another. Of course, as with any fraternity, YOU couldn’t say to any of us what we say to each other or you’d find two dozen putters wrapped around your neck.)
Y’all have a good evening!

@thislittlepennyearns Damn, I'm probably going to owe taxes again this year. I might need those eggs you throw at me. I can turn around and throw them at the IRS.

I'm sorry that your back is still bothering you. Your roof is paid off? HOORAY! Good job. I hope you have a good day.

Some things one can only say among friends. Other people just wouldn't "get it".

Sorry you can't play anymore. But you had a great time. And you can still join them a lot.

It’s old age. Lots of things I can’t do anymore (like swim). That’s okay. I had a great time getting to this age!

This week is kind of really rolling along. Nice sunny and breezy weather. Probably will take you some time to get used to not playing Putt Putt anymore,

It won’t, because I’ve had to cut back so much over the past four years. I didn’t play at all last year, either. As long as I can go and harass the guys (and get harassed by them) then I’m fine.

You had a great playing career, so be proud of yourself for that!
You aren’t kidding about the pollen in Florida. My red truck will magically be a yellow truck for the next month or so from all that pollen. The pollen and my spring allergies is also why my vertigo is acting up right now.
I may be on my last season of playing professional paintball. It’s getting harder and harder for my back and knees to recover after tournaments these days. But of course, I’ve been saying for the last 2 seasons that I was going to retire! Haha

I sent this to my brother from the Sea Hunt Pavilion. We were talking about the things filmed at Silver Springs and I sent this and said, “They’re filming a new movie, The Pollen Monster That Ate New York.”
My car was green, which is why I went through the car wash…I wanted my blue car back!

@FourWalls Stupid pollen! The nicest time of the year weather wise, and it’s ruined by the excessive amounts of pollen in the air.

Those were the days, when there were over a thousand Putt Putt courses in America. Now I think there are 27.
