Magic Mushrooms Becoming Legal?

In a safe and legal environment, researchers are now saying the once-illegal substance may have some merit.
It was a Class One drug in the Nixon years. During The War on Drugs, the medical society saw no medically founded use for this drug. There has since been a radical change in that viewpoint. There has been a historic change in laws in the use of cannabis and, now there is significant research that says psilocybin may be the next to take a place in medical history.
Oregon was the first state to decriminalize cannabis. Now they are looking at a ballot measure approved by the public that will legalize the controlled use of psilocybin, or magic mushrooms, in a professional and thoughtful program implemented by trained professionals.
It will probably soon be okayed by the FDA for use in the treatment of depression. In chemical trials, it is seen as very helpful in the treatment of PTSD, depression, anxiety, near-death fears, and addictions such as alcoholism, cigarette smoking, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Even some trials look at anorexia as well.
It is very different from the day-to-day use of anti-depressive medications that mostly mask the disorder and is more of a psychedelic experience. Psilocybin gives the user a more broad picture of the world around them. An open-minded, what-if mindset can lead to real behavior shifts. This can lead to some huge changes in the lives of people who have lived with certain disorders most of their lives.
If this new model in Oregon becomes a working program other states such as Colorado and New York will be quick to follow.
What do you think of this possible new opportunity for people with these disorders?

I like the aspect of it changing the way a person thinks about their situation.

@celticeagle I guess. I’m really not into that. Whatever works for them is fine by me.

What I know about cannabis when I was in high school in the late 1970s was it was dangerous to take. Then many sports stars argued on television that cannabis is on many food and drinks we take.
I would avoid taking cannabis unless it is safe to take as a medicine prescribed by a doctor.

Sure. We have to do our own due dilligence on such things too.

I would never use them; but if they are proven safe and good for some medical conditions, then I guess it's OK. I would wonder about those that take the mushrooms and then get out on the road.
