''Help, I've fallen, and I can't get up'' I read this in a post

@MarieCoyle talked about this in one of her posts, where a button with this message is pressed to alert paramedics They were talking about a lady who lived alone and did not want help from neighbours.
So many seniors live alone and help is not at hand when they fall. I have fallen but I had company.
I doubt if India has any such facility - they are lagging behind in many spheres.
Does your country have this facility?

@allknowing She used a couple of times, a paramedic reached her apartment to help her. She preferred to call my brother, but those two times my brother was vacationing.

Yes, we have something like that. I think first the service tries to phone you and if no answer they call for help. I know my brother got called to help my aunt. So, not straight to emergency services.
I think people might pay a fee for that service. Time for me to check it out, we're getting up there.

Where will that button be? It has to be close to wherever one falls. Right? Yes. Truth be told. We are all getting there and I am already there (lol)

My aunt wore hers around her neck, so did my neighbor. They are designed for that.
As I mentioned in another post, there are now some seniors who wear smart watches, apple watch, etc. They can set them to alert for 911 or to contact people with them if they fall. One of the big reasons so many have gone to the smart watch option is the cost, as with the ''Help, I've Fallen'' button requires a monthly fee, and the smart watch can just be added to home internet, etc.

@MarieCoyle What is the initial cost of that watch and also one needs an internet connection for that Right? But here in India even that will not work.

The only problem is what if the house is locked from inside

@MarieCoyle This seems farfetched when it comes to India specially in rural and semi rural areas.

It's hooked up from your home, not from a service. I know people that live way out in the country that have a code lock, it works everywhere here.

There is a company in America called "First Alert" which when a person falls down and they cannot get up, their cries for help that is an object that they were on them sends a message to 911 dispatchers to send help to the fallen person.

@MarieCoyle It is not just the App but not many would follow instructions.

Yes, I understand. Plus there are some older people who do not understand technology, either. Not you, but you know what I mean.

For a subscription fee you can get medical alert jewelry that you wear. You can press a button and summon help.

You need more than one person to help you. It surely is a problem and a disturbing one too

So odd that one has to wear that for 24 hours every day It would be better if one is taught how to get up on one's own.

@allknowing True but if you've broken your leg or wrist or whatever, then being able to get an ambulance could be life-saving.

Not being able to get up when one falls in love is more dangerous than seniors falling!!!!
