Took forever to get refund

Went to the Russian store yesterday and got fresh mozzarella to put into a salad. When the lady tried scanning the mozzarella it wouldn’t work so she manually entered the bar code. The price scanned at $3.81 instead of $3.31 but I didn’t say anything. Thought maybe I remembered the price incorrectly. Decided to pay and check the receipt after. I looked at the receipt after exiting the store and noticed it said .59 pounds $3.81. Took out the mozzarella and examined the label. It said .51 pounds $3.31. That’s a fifty cent difference. How is that possible? Perhaps she had to manually enter the weight as well and mistakenly entered the wrong number. I went back into the store to get refunded fifty cents. The girl had issues trying to do that. She had to call the manager for help and even that didn’t work. The manager had to call someone on the phone to figure that out. And even with that it took a while till it finally worked. I waited probably half an hour at least to get refunded fifty cents. And that didn’t even happen. They ended up refunding the entire amount on the check and then having me buy the mozzarella again. In all the years shopping there I never had this happen. Refunds or price adjustments were always fast. The manager apologized but that didn’t bring back the time I wasted in getting the money back. At one point even hubby came into the store to see why it’s taking me so long. After waiting together for a bit I ended up telling him to go home and that I will wait till this is sorted and just walk home.

@RebeccasFarm Unless I am super pissed off that I can't take it anymore then I may yell or scream. Otherwise no.

It's good that I am a very patient person and rather reserved. I was standing there quietly waiting for them to give me what I was owed. Or to refund the whole amount and have me buy the mozzarella again. Someone else would have made a scene or started yelling, etc. At one point thought I told them that the weight is different on the label than on the receipt. If I hadn't told them that it probably would have taken even longer.

You have more patience than I do. I don't think I would've bothered for 50 cents.

@lovebuglena No, they can't. Not without being able to account for it. Especially if you pay with a card. I used to work for Pizza Hut, and felt with sales all the time. I know what it's like to deal with cash.

@kaylachan It is weird but at the supermarket yesterday they refunded us $2 without even doing anything. The girl at customer service just looked at the receipt after we told her what happened and asked us if we want it in cash or back to the card. We said cash so she just gave us $2.

It's not merely about the 50 cents. Why should I pay more just because they made a mistake? Especially if I am aware of it. I would've been happy with just getting 50 cents from the register. But I guess they can't do that.

It is. And time you can't get back. And we had hubby's brother and his girlfriend visiting for dinner. I should have been home making food, not standing at the store waiting to get the money back I was owed.

I am sorry for the issues you had in the Russian store. You should have asked the manager for the time you wasted in getting the refund. Hope they don't the corrections so that now any other customers face this issue.

@lovebuglena Yes they might have done the corrections in the system before the refund.

@sjvg1976 The same day we were at the supermarket. I loaded a $2 off coupon for ice cream onto our store card but I scanned the wrong store card by mistake (I think it used to be my dad's). Of course, we didn't get the $2 off. After we paid we went to customer service and the girl there immediately gave us $2 back. She just asked if we want cash or to put it back on the card. Hubby said cash so she gave us $2. The only wait was for the girl to finish up with a customer before us. And that was only a few minutes.

Can’t get the time back. Wish they had just given me fifty cents and let me go. But I guess they are not allowed to do that.

Walmart always refunded the whole amount and then rang the item up again. Something about the computers didn't like giving refunds for partial amounts.

I’m ok with getting full refund and then rescanning item and paying for it. But that shouldn’t take a long time to do. Wonder what the issue was.

@lovebuglena The store manager probably didn't think to do that first.

@DaddyEvil I think the original girl tried to do that and it didn't work. Maybe because she was not able to scan the item as the label was not all straight and had to enter the bar code manually.

It's not the fifty cents that matter it's the time wasted waiting for the process.

Yes. And because I had already been waiting for a while when hubby came in I didn't want to just say 'forget it' and go home. I wanted it sorted out. But it's also the whole principle of it. Why should I overpay because of a mistake they made that I was aware of right away?

@florelway If I was in a total rush to be somewhere I would have probably left. But since I wasn't in a rush I chose to wait. I wonder if I had spoken up at the register before I paid about the price possibly being less than what was scanned if it would take a while to correct it or if it would be quick.

@lovebuglena You did the right thing. It's a matter of some wasted time to correct other's mistake.

It was her mistake so why should I pay those extra 50 cents. Also, since I was already waiting for a while I didn't want to just leave.

I think, why it takes a few days just to get a refund? Most services are like that in my area.

It can take a few days for the refund to appear on your credit card account but to do the refund at the store should be instant.
