A tea towel too good to use

On most of our trips away from home we’ve brought back various souvenirs but now we’re trying to downsize I have to wonder sometimes at my choices. Nowadays, if I buy anything at all, I try to buy something I can use rather than a knick-knack. Or I might buy a fridge magnet although I have enough of these too now. I also have a lot of lovely postcards but what do I do with them now? I came across this tea-towel while searching for something else. I bought it in a gift shop near Buckingham palace but it’s too good to use as a tea-towel. It might make a nice tray cloth if I had a tray to put it on but I don’t. Do you ever buy useless souvenirs?

At our old house the fridge was covered with "souvenir" magnets from different trips all over the US. When we were downsizing to move, Pretty asked if there were any we "needed" to keep. I chose half a dozen of them that have special memories and asked if she wanted to keep any of the others... She chose three more... The rest got trashed. The only thing I didn't let Pretty pick and choose through was a filing cabinet that used to be beside my computer desk... When I'm gone, she can sort through the things in there and see what she wants to keep... They won't matter to me anymore.

We really need to act as there is no-one that will want our stuff as the 'boys' won't be able to take much with them back to their homes. I imagine a lot of things will just get trashed.

Magnetic are useful. You always have something to put up notes and calendars with.

@JudyEv I'm sure Pretty won't want much of the things I kept through my lifetime. *shrug* There wasn't a lot that mom and dad saved that we wanted after they passed away. It just had no value to us.

I’d say just use it. If it’s too nice to use and never gets used it’s not doing any good. There are myLot members who like to exchange postcards and have a collection maybe you could write them a note and mail them a postcard? I used to have a postcard collection as well of places I visited.

@JudyEv The first tour of ours was to Bangkok/Singapore. I had never seen a Mall before. I bought chocolates - 17 slabs of them and after distributing only 5 were left (lol)

Not anymore. My souvenirs tend to be t-shirts, which I can wear for a few years then rotate into “nightwear” (pajamas, or pyjamas as y’all spell it ). Those aren’t as “useless” as the little souvenir stack of cannon balls I remember getting at Gettysburg Battlefield when I was a kid.

T-shirts aren't a bad idea. I've bought one or two and occasionally a jumper/sweater.

About the only knick knack stuff in our house is the collectible toys and stuff and then the legos. Well other than what is in the kids rooms. But I totally get it.

I like the magnets. They aren't expensive and they don't take up a lot of space in your suitcase.

@JudyEv I did the same in the past. I bought for my brother, sister in law, my Mom, my grandparents and in laws... it was stressful.

We have tried to avoid that. I do buy too many caps, so many I don't know where to keep them all. But I wear one anytime I go out in the sun, so I do use most of them.
