It Finally Came Today

We have been waiting for this for literally years. My grandson was prescribed Risperdal maybe eight years ago. There were some things in the news and my grandson let his mom take some pictures and fill out litigation paperwork. I helped him with letter writing, phone calls, compiling info, etc. It has taken seven years and now, today, the whole thing has come to an end finally and he has received a check for $59,350.87(originally it was $116,636). Whoa! He doesn't want to have any cosmetic surgery done. That's a hard decision but, ultimately, his to make. I hope he isn't sorry in the future. I have added a link to an article about the history of this litigation and the reasons for it.
It has been a long time coming. We will go deposit the money tomorrow. After bills, electronic upgrades, and a few household items there won't be much left. We will have fun with some too. And, I just found out that it isn't taxable either Federally or State. I hope that Medicaid and Housing doesn't have much to say. We were told that this settlement falls under what is called expansion and he should owe none to either of the above-mentioned. We will see how that goes.
Have any of you had a legal landfall, personal injury settlement or anything like that happen in your world recently?

I am glad it's over, this kind of litigation takes years to be settled, I am glad he had the money.
My father decided not to sue the doctor who almost paralyzed my right arm when I broke my elbow. He was happy enough that a surgeon could save my arm.

@LadyDuck ........Very much so. My grandmother had a broken arm when she was quite young. It was set wrong and always had trouble with her penmanship because of it.

@celticeagle I am glad too, losing the usage of your right arm and hand at the age of 7 would have been invalidating.

Because the major legal team got nearly half, then there were several other legal people who had their part in it, court fees, expert fees, electronic signature, and processing, probably something I've forgotten. It takes a lot of people to bring it all together.

Congratulations and glad you will be able to get a lot done with that money, No legal stuff for me but I keep trying to make a couple of thousand bucks working on line challenges through Vocal Media. Perhaps one day my writing might pay off.

Yes, it'll be so nice for him to be able to upgrade a bit now and he is paying me a bit for helping him.
What are "line challenges"? I used to write for a site that published several different types of articles. I wrote about horses, pregnancy, new technology, smoking/health, and a few other subjects. I really enjoyed it and made pretty good $$ at it. It's no longer around.

@celticeagle sorry about that I meant just writing challenges, The latest one on Vocal Media is about writing a horror story with the top prize being $1000 I will give it a try, Of course, to be able to take part in these challenges you have to be a prime member at 9.99 a month but I figure it is worth the try

I've never been involved in a class action suit. I'm glad your grandson received some compensation.

Aww poor kid having to deal with that. That is such an odd side effect. My father took it for awhile I’m not sure exactly what for but it was after his stroke. I took it for a few days but it caused me to bleed so I quit. I can’t remember what they gave it to me for I think as a mood stabilizer.

It sure is. He sure doesn't deserve it. We trust our doctors and they trust the pharmaceutical companies. Who knew (besides the pharmaceutical companies) until it was too late?

Congrats! No legal stuff yet for me. We are trying to change my uncle's will so I can own his house. But it's been slow.

What a relief that must have been. What kind of plastic surgery will he need? Will he be shouldering the expense?

As I said in the above post-- he has chosen not to have any plastic surgery. If he did the personal injury settlement amount would pay for it. You can read about the medication and what it did at the URL I provided. I don't really want to write it all out here.
