Saree (sari)

Saree is an elegant attire if worn in the manner it is designed to be worn But these days there are so many versions none of them I would like to emulate. There are restrictions when one is in a saree. Indian women specially the labour class however are seen working wearing a saree. They will tuck it up and do work such as lifting, digging, weeding, house work, swimming et al. I appreciate the West who have outfits for different activities - gardening swimming, cycling, household chores, etc. Of late I have not worn it but when I did I wore it while working in an office or attending formal functons .

These days I don't see ladies wearing them often, they wear them when they go to attend some functions.

I love them. They look so elegant and colorful. I rarely see anyone wear them. One family in town were Indian and the mother wore them and once awhile the daughters did too one of which I was friends with.

@allknowing I haven’t seen the woman in years. Her husband has a girlfriend and he is a sugar daddy. It’s sad for his wife. She doesn’t speak English.

Is it "OK" for middle class women to wear a sari when working?

@TheHorse My mother wore sarees while working, while sleeping, casual and formal events. I wore sarees for work and functions, salwar kameez and now I wear pants and t shirts, kaftans and pant suits shrugs. Yes We have changed.

I also think that wearing sari is very elegant. It also seems simple to do so with a piece of big cloth which I saw it from TV. But I think I can't do it so well by myself if I use a cloth to dress like sari

Saree is very elegant and I like how it look. I agree that it's not practical to cook or work in the garden. I remember in the late 70's we had long "gypsy" style dresses that were in fashion, I wore one but it was not practical.
