How Well Do You Swim?

I took lifeguard lessons when I was only 12 years old.
Not that I could save anyone now.
I so love the water, but have not been swimming for years now.
There is a nice recreation center up the road here with a huge pool, but I prefer the ocean.
Still, one has to make due with what is near.
Maybe I will dive into the chlorine soaked pool.
Do you know how to swim?

@RebeccasFarm the floors in those dressing rooms can be deadly slippery. One of my kids wiped out and hit their head so hard when they were little at the ymca.

Lifeguard lessons at 12
! I went to swim school at 14
. And the swimming instructor told me she learned to swim too late too - at age 5
. I can float and go from one end of the pool to the other, but I'm can't swim underwater for some reason. I hope you can make it to the ocean sometime
!

@RebeccasFarm Well, it's still a drive. From here, maybe it's a 45 minute drive.

I know how to swim just not very well. I'm sure my kids know how to swim away better than me.

@RebeccasFarm I don't think that would ever happen. The bible is just a bunch of stories.

I could just about barely doggy paddle. Mostly I have swum in pools with a helping adult ring around the waist. Of course, the best thing was when we had that little pool in Latvia for the hot days. Now I doubt if I will ever swim again but that is all right,

Yeah you don't have to but you might put your toes in the ocean isn't it?
Oh I love this little pool. I would get in it too.

I am terrified of water which was a shame when we lived in Hawaii for almost four years! The smell of chlorine sends a slight panic through me.

I would say pretty well, but there are only certain strokes that I like. I also don't like to have my head underwater like in terms of changing directions for instance.

@RebeccasFarm I always tell myself every year I am going to get ear plugs for use when I am swimming, and I always forget. I haven't gotten an ear ache, but I hate water trapped in my ear, it seems to stay there for days.

I do love the water also, but cannot swim as a certified professional.
My mother used to enroll me in swimming lessons, usually 2 or 3 sessions, each session would last for 2 weeks, during the summer holidays when I was a kid.
Other than that, my best friend and I could usually convince one of our mothers to drive us into the town close by on really hot days for a couple of hours of swimming in the outdoor public pool.
I do not like to swim in the lakes, and have never been near the ocean to dip my toe in there so I do not know if I would enjoy it or not.

When I left the Army I became a life guard.
I am a good enough swimmer.
Not sure I would be any good at life saving now.

Mom had us take swimming lessons when we were kids, so I can swim, but have not done so as much as I did then in years.
I have wanted to get back into it, and would have to do that at a YMCA, but I did not know how close I was to one until recently. I can walk to it, so I will join soon.
I am waiting until there are fewer chances for ice and snow.
