I read though that telegrams can still be sent today. I was not aware of that. But I remember the telegrams of old, my Mother would recieve from her family in Ireland and England back in the day. Usually, the news was of a death in the family, which always was sad. I remember them being delivered and I always knew this would not be good. Do you ever remember getting telegrams?

Never got a telegram. They were a dying method of communication by the time I came along.

I do not remember ever getting a telegram. Even in the old days before computers, I don't remember any. I am surprised that they use them now in this age of instant communication.

Watch a old Western and they made good use of telegrams via a telegraph operator. It would be sent in morse code and delivered to the rightful person. The Post Office abolished the service in 1977. You don't need the post office to send a telegram anymore. You can do it from the internet if you want.

I don't think my parents dealt with telegrams, so I never saw them. But I do remember if we got a call from one of the relatives, that sometimes did not mean good news .

We were taught to write telegrams in school but we never applied them in our lives and now they got obsolete after the introduction of emails and mobile phones.

I bet in 1918 when my Grandmother was born this was popular. Although you never know when things will change. Such as communication. If you don't have any source of communication, this must be it. This is way cool, though.

There was always a number of telegrams read out at weddings. Some were made up for the occasion and could be pretty risque.
