Telegrams of Old

I read though that telegrams can still be sent today.
I was not aware of that.
But I remember the telegrams of old, my Mother would recieve from her family in Ireland and England back in the day.
Usually, the news was of a death in the family, which always was sad.
I remember them being delivered and I always knew this would not be good.
Do you ever remember getting telegrams?

Never got a telegram. They were a dying method of communication by the time I came along.

Watch a old Western and they made good use of telegrams via a telegraph operator. It would be sent in morse code and delivered to the rightful person. The Post Office abolished the service in 1977. You don't need the post office to send a telegram anymore. You can do it from the internet if you want.

Oh yes airmail..my Mother wrote back and forth all the time using it. The blue airmail envelopes.

I think we call telegraph here. I never got a telegraph. But I remember this was used in the old days.
