Day 252 (Psalms 122:1-9) (A Song of Ascents. Of David.) I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the LORD.” Our feet have been standing within your gates, O Jerusalem! Jerusalem is built as a city that is compact together, where the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, to the Testimony of Israel, to give thanks to the name of the LORD. For thrones are set there for judgment, the thrones of the house of David. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces.” For the sake of my brethren and companions, I will now say, “Peace be within you.” Because of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your good. What makes you glad? I’m certain you can name a number of things that make you glad, but what is the one thing above all others that will always make you glad? David said he was glad when they invited him to go to God’s temple, His house where all the tribes went to thank God for His many blessings. Then he told the people to pray for Jerusalem’s peace because doing so brought prosperity to those who loved the Lord. David loved God’s house and said because of it, he would always seek Jerusalem’s good. As Christians, how often do you pray for Jerusalem’s peace? How often do you seek her good? Are you glad when people invite you to go to church with them so you can worship God? When was the last time you were glad to go to church, you could hardly wait to get there to worship God with other believers and praise His name. Are you always glad? Or is it an obligation and you are gladder when you leave than when you arrived? Maybe it’s the reason you don’t go to church often. David said he was glad when people asked him to go to God’s house. It was there he worshiped God, and it was there he prayed for Jerusalem’s peace. Do you want God’s blessing in your life? Spend time in His presence, in His house. Worship Him and pray for Jerusalem’s peace. When you do, you will be glad and long for the next time you can come into His presence. When you seek Jerusalem’s peace, when you pray for her, and bless her, God will bless you. It’s His promise. Let’s pray: Father, let Your blessing rest on me because I am glad to spend time in Your house, worshiping You and praising Your name. I pray for Jerusalem’s peace.
