It is not funny at all. It hurts like hell. This elbow bone..or whatever..it hurts when you hit it. I quite often do that too. Do you find yourself hitting your elbow on things sometimes? I really damaged one of my elbows when I was a child. And I just hit it now on this dang chair.

Yes, funny bone my eye! I definitely don't find it "humerus." I get tennis elbow flareup from time to time. Usually when I play tennis or golf. The result of many years of sports wear and tear, ouch.

Because it usually makes you laugh when it first happens, which is weird because you are in pain. I remember as a little kid, I fell out of a wagon and whacked my funnybone good.. I was laughing and then crying.

@RebeccasFarm I have for sure, and that one time quite alot. I found this online about it.? If you have your shin hit it hurts, and it can really hurt. But if you hit your elbow you get a different kind of tingly sensation which is so strange that you can laugh. The tingling is the result of pressure to the brachial nerve which runs through the elbow structure."

@RebeccasFarm I think you really have to whack it in the right place and hard for that laughing reaction to occur. I think it has happened to me since then,,,,but not the way it did that time. I remember after it happened I was complaining to my mom about it, and she said "you must have hit your funnybone."

I don’t know why they call it the funny bone, because NOBODY laughs when they hit it. And anyone who’s ever hit it doesn’t laugh when someone else does it, either!!!!

Because the genious who decided to name bones decided to name it the humorous. because while painful, you have to laugh at yourself and wonder, how in the hell-o could I have hit that?

OMG that is so funny! I hit my funny bone today at work, and I was in agonizing pain while everyone around me laughed. Maybe that's why it's called the funny bone, because it makes everyone else laugh!

Hi there, Ocean@RebeccasFarm. It's been a very long pause for me on this side of our world, Down Under. What do you do to find relief for your elbow and arms? I always hit my joints on my fingers. They hurt so badly every time that happens. Take care and let's be careful. :-)

@RebeccasFarm That looks comforting. I've been working 2 jobs since January. My son moved back in since Christmas. And moved out again last week. So, a lot has been going on in my life. But all the while, I have been thinking about you and Carol with my whole heart.

Hitting one's elbow certainly is not a funny matter. For me it is even worse if I hit my left elbow because at one time I had a fracture right on the bone.

Oh yes, but not quite often. Hurts every time it gets knocked. The pain radiates to the forearm and hand. Sometimes I even have a numb feeling. From what I know, they call it a funny bone because of the "funny" or weird sensation we got when we hit it.

First time I hear about this name, funny bone. We don't call it that way. But we do have a superstition, if you hit your elbow you will get good news, but only if you don't touch it. And, like you said, it hurts like hell, so most people by reflex touch it after hitting it.
