Do You Have Any Regrets?

One thing that drove me crazy while raising my son was his attraction to toys at the dollar store. I understood his desire for them, but those items were too cheap and often broke on the way home to our house, so I made it a point to only go there without him.
We purposefully did not eat out much, but I also hated going to fast-food restaurants with him. It wasn't that my son misbehaved because he knew better than to act up. I hated not knowing whether the toy in the bag would be different. I also hated when he'd get one thing one day, then upon our return a few weeks later, it was still the same toy, even though there were two or more other ones available. The restaurants near us never seemed to have the entire set.
My other problem (and my son's father and I agreed on this one) was the number of these (duplicate) toys our son had, what with all the individual trips out he had with each of us, our siblings, and our parents. We had to put a stop to Happy Meal purchases as well.
I regretted ever spending money on those dollar store toys and Happy Meals because the dollar store toys were too cheap, and the Happy Meal toys were more often duplicates.
What is one thing you regret spending money on?

Mine never broke any cheap toys they lasted a long time.

The trouble in my situation was Ryan was not happy once the cheap toys broke, and they broke because of poor manufacturing, not rough play.

I agree with you, when my kids were young, I spent too much on toys.

My son is now old enough to have a fourth or fifth grader, but does not have any children. He's just not ready yet. But, I know once he has kids, he'll limit dollar store and Happy Meal toys as well. He realized how much I was right just by hanging out with friends and cousins who have kids.

These dang chair we have in here right now..they were all I could afford though.
They are only meant to be used outdoors, patio type chairs..we have no furniture except beds and a few shelves.
But these chairs are off gassing as they are some cheap vinyl.

@Chellezhere The other serious regrets are picking the wrong person to be with.

It is always a good thing to help bring happiness to others. I am glad you don't regret that.

I loved raising an only child. I was an English language and literature major, so my kid had books, too.

I can't blame you there. I know there is a lot I would do all over again if Ryan was still little.
One year, I painted his room black and teal to go with the rest of his Jacksonville Jaguars motif. His walls were black from the floor to the chair rail, then teal the rest of the way up. And his room was not dark. There was ample lighting throughout.

@Chellezhere Those colors sound nice. I have many stories I will share eventually.

I can't blame you there. It is so hard when it's the items that are too expensive for the purchaser that the children want.

I didn't mind the Happy meal toys but we didn't stop a lot. Those always put a smile on the kids faces.

@Chellezhere I would go trade it if that happened. As you said they often had the others there also

@wolfgirl569 I tried, but every time, they only ever had the one they put in the bag. It's been over 20 years ago now too, so I am over it.

We didn't (stop a lot) either, but the thing is, when we did, it was often the same toy from a month earlier, and yet there was supposed to have been a set.

Having no children I did not have such problems. I do have stepchildren and they were raised that there was never enough money to spend frivolously and they would get a toy or something they enjoyed on birthdays and holidays,

I am pretty tight with our money and can't think of anything major that I spent money on that I regret.

I can understand how that would make you regret making a purchase.

@Chellezhere Yup. Nowadays with the bad world economy, I am being careful on any purchases I made even with my friends.
