Trying to sell Dad’s stuff

My dad passed away last May and there’s a lot of good quality stuff still in the closet. Many items never worn and with tags still on them. Mom wants to try and sell them. Doesn’t feel right to me to sell his stuff yet but better to try and sell it than throw it away or donate it. Can’t keep it in the house as it’s not good to keep a lot of stuff of a person that passed away.
My sister-in-law introduced my mom to an app called Poshmark, where you can sell stuff you no longer want or need. It can be new or used. I’m not sure all the categories you can sell there but clothes and shoes are definitely two of them.
We put one item up on there and waiting for it to be approved. Hopefully it will. Will see if anyone buys it. Then if all goes well with the entire process (after someone buys it) of completing the order and getting the item to the customer we will put up more stuff.
What I found interesting is that when you set the price of the item, it asks you first to list the original price and then enter the price you want to sell it for. That means you can’t sell it for more than you initially bought it for. Why can’t we do that? Especially if the stuff is brand new.

My son in law sells things on Poshmark at times and he says they always sell. He's bought a few items as well. He was particularly happy recently to buy a brand new, LL Bean winter coat, for $25. I guess since winter is hopefully gone, no one wants to buy a coat right now? Whatever the reason, it was a huge bargain.

That is a huge bargain indeed. My sister-in-law said to make sure the picture is really good so that it attracts the buyer.

I think Poshmark is fairly strict on blocking any users that pile up negative reviews, as well. But daughter and son-in-law both say Poshmark items they have purchased have all been great.

Well, when you put up an item you specify if it is brand new or used.

Good Luck selling Lena, I had never used Poshmark.
I would sell things on the local site Nextdoor.
But I know this must be painful as well to sell your beloved Dad's stuff.

@lovebuglena Was it approved yet? What are they approving, like what are they looking for?

Unfortunately, can't keep all his stuff. They take up a lot of room. And it is not good to keep his stuff Mom says. Maybe it brings negative energy or something because he is gone. It would be great if we can sell all the things that have tags on them. Wonder if the first thing we put up was approved.

@RebeccasFarm have no idea lol. Perhaps just to make sure it doesn’t violate any rules or guidelines. I will see my mom tomorrow and ask her to check if it was approved.

I hope the sales process goes well and you/your mom can sell the rest of his things.

Thank you. Still have no idea if the first item we put up was approved or not. Mom hasn't told me. Wanted to see how it goes with the first item before putting up more stuff.

@DaddyEvil Want to deal with one item first to get the hang of the process before putting up more stuff.

We have a lot of bags of his clothes in Mom's garage that we are gonna donate. But they have been worn. I didn't want to sell those, though people buy used stuff as well it seems.

@arunima25 I’m not sure if the item we posted was approved yet. Gotta ask my mom. Have a feeling she forgot about it.

@lovebuglena Donating his worn clothes would be a noble thing to do. It will reach the needy people and that's the best thing to do.
What's the update on the sale? I hope you could sell them.

Not gonna sell those that have been worn. Though on that app people sell used stuff. I am assuming that people actually buy something someone else already wore. But there are many things with tags still on that he never got to wear. Doesn't seem right to just throw them away.
