Easter Foods

The long Easter weekend is almost upon us starting from Friday - Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday. So much to do - church services, picnics and heaps of other activities. What special meals do you prepare on those days. In Jamaica, fish prepared in various ways is a main dish , and of course there is the famous bun and cheese (shown above) which is a must. Any special plans, activities, food?

No plans here. I remember the good times in the past with family. Always plenty of food and several Easter egg hunts. We always had baked ham and many side dishes.

I remember growing up in Guyana, kite flying on the seawall was - and still is a big thing. And church services of course.

As a child I liked Easter Saturday the best as that is one day no church and no prayers at home (lol)

Easter Monday was the best day for the majority of younger folks. They would crowd the seawall and boardwalk. , flying kites, picnicking and strutting around in the latest fashions.

Nothing going on here. When I was a kid, mom made a huge meal because all of her kids would come over and bring their families with them for Easter. Pretty and I rarely see any of our family except for one brother and one sister. All the kids are grown and gone.

When my children were little we always had easter egg hunts at my mothers house. My daughter in law takes her little ones to her mothers house so I really don't celebrate Easter.

I remember my mom serving ham on Easter and making a dessert called Struffoli. Struffoli also known as Honey Balls is a Neapolitan dish made of deep-fried balls of sweet dough. The dough is used in many Italian sweet treats. One treat I will make on Easter is an egg casserole mixed with sausage, onions, and peppers.

The Struffoli looks very tasty. Your egg casserole sounds like it will be special.

A traditional Easter meal in Italy always has eggs and fish. I am going to serve deviled eggs and smoked salmon, and eggs shaped cookies for dessert.

No, nothing special here. What kind of bread is used with the cheese? I guess the must usual food around Easter is fried herring, a delicious fish.

It is called Easter bun but it is made with yeast .It is a descendant of the hot cross buns from Britain traditionally eaten on Good Friday.

Usually ham is involved. I am visiting my family this Easter, and have no idea what the plans are. Usually sis and bro in law will cook, but I told them not to do it unless they felt like it because we could always go out somewhere. I feel kind of guilty running them ragged. They don't mind it but it is a lot of work.

I grew up having ham for Easter most years. My family and I are having duck this year. Duck is not my favorite, but my son really enjoys it.

I told a friend I had never had hot crossed buns. She brought me one. It was good. I know those are traditional for Good Friday. I'm having roasted lamb for Easter dinner. For me, that's a must.
