Day 269
(Proverbs 3:13-20) Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding. For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, and her gain more than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, and all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. Length of days is in her right hand, in her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peaceful. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are all who retain her. The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding He established the heavens; by His knowledge, the depths were broken up, and clouds drop down the dew.
Many people believe they need to do something exciting to make themselves happy. If they go somewhere, marry the right person, have the right job, live in the right place, and know the right people, they will be happy.
Solomon said the man who found wisdom was happy. Wisdom was better than the profits of silver and gold, and more precious than rubies. Nothing compared with wisdom. God created the world with wisdom and gave long life and riches to those who sought it.
Do you, as Christ’s child, know that wisdom is the first gift of the Holy Spirit?
(1 Corinthians 12:7-11) But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
Solomon said you are happy when you gain understanding. The second gift of the Holy Spirit is knowledge. Knowledge is understanding. When you combine wisdom and knowledge, you have everything you need. Nothing compares to the wisdom and knowledge God gives you through His Spirit.
Do you act with wisdom in everything you do? I think it’s fair to say Christians don’t always use wisdom, but when you start each day in prayer, asking God for His wisdom in everything you do, He will give it to you, and He will give you understanding so you can do His will. Then all your paths will be pleasant, and your life will be peaceful and happy.
Let’s pray: Father, give me wisdom and understanding as I go through my day. Show me how I can be effective for You. Guide me by Your Holy Spirit in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
