Greater Idaho, Good or bad?

I am a stubborn, ole stick in the mud regarding change. I don't enjoy changes. It adds to my anxiety and anything that I don't want or need to be added to my life. I'm not sure how I feel about this new change that may be coming to Idaho. Back in early February, I read about a change that could possibly be coming to Idaho. The Idaho House of Representatives has passed a resolution to initiate discussions with the Oregon Legislature regarding a change to the boundaries of these two states. Idaho was going to expand its border and take in part of eastern and southern Oregon. This would mean Idaho would absorb 11 Oregon counties and 63% of Oregon's landmass would now be a part of Idaho. Ultra-liberal northwest Oregon cities such as Eugene, Salem, and Portland control the states' politics and silence the area of Oregon's proposed absorption into Idaho on many political issues. The bill is called "Greater Idaho" or HJM 1. There are several economic benefits to this change. This change could mean lower taxes, a lower cost of living, and, lower unemployment as well as $170 million annually would be added to Idaho's budget. All nice but-- When I see something this dramatic happening it makes me wonder if there isn't something else going on. If they do this doesn't Idaho have to buy the land? I just wonder if there aren't other things going logistically speaking.

Whoever owns the property would continue to do so. But Congress would have to approve this along with both states. It might make Idaho even more conservative.

If Idaho gets much more conservative, they'll have to change their state flag to something with a bent cross on it perhaps.

It would mean a change to the US too. New maps would need to be made to change the boundary lines of the two states. It could change the number of seats in the House of Representatives for both states. Lots of factors to consider, not just moving the lines.

Yes from what I heard they want Coos Bay because they are suppose to put a port there which would mean a lot of money coming in. Douglas County is not suppose to be part of it. I hope it does not pass.

It is not likely that this will happen with all the approvals needed, including Congress.

They wanted to join several small cities under one single municipality here. The citizens were called to vote, we all refused.

Idaho is a very conservative state. I hope they leave the boundary alone.

@LadyDuck........I hope this doesn't go through. Sounds like they are all for it in that part of the state though.

@celticeagle I am very glad we did not join our municipality with the other 3 proposed, one of them would have been fine, but not the other 2.

I really don’t understand it. You’d think state lines would be permanent.

Honestly, I don't know if it's good or bad. It could mean a number of things. I'd say don't worry, but you already are.

I don't like change and I think that they need to leave the boundaries alone. They do it here then California will and on and on.

The people in favor of the change should realize that all the "lowers" they are looking forward to will come with lower public services, lower police protection, lower money spent on roads, bridges, and highways, lower investments in public health and public education, and lower assistance for those in most need. And this doesn't even address the current political trends in Idaho and other GOP-controlled states to silence dissent, disenfranchise POC and women, and manipulate whose votes count and whose don't. But, hey, if that's what they want, let them vote to have it.

I would hate it if they changed Ohio's borders. Sounds like your change has a lot of pros to it. Hope you are having a good weekend.
