A Naked Tree

A few days after the tree cutters left the premises I walked out the nature trail to see exactly what they had done and did I get a surprise.
The first tree cutter had taken his tree down completely but when I came to the second tree the tree was still standing or what was left of it.
Every branch cut off and the whole top of the tree removed, but the tree was still standing. I made a picture and I hope it will submit so you can see for yourself.
By the way, I finally clicked a picture of the poplar blossom that submitted. Hope all my friends in Mylot land are having a good day.

Fair day but it is bitterly cold and a fierce wind here Ruby.
Why did they cut the tree down to nothing I wonder.

I've seen foresters do that before but don't know why the leave the snag standing. I would think it could become dangerous as the trunk weakens and finally falls when it rots.

@RubyHawk I never thought to ask why they left a few snags like that... There may be some other reason but I can't think what that would be.

@DaddyEvil Then it will be useful for animals. It's the only tree I've seen left like that.

I don't know if this is the case but I have seen trees left like that and later on, they start spouting growth,

@RubyHawk ........Their excuse is probably 'thinning' them out.

Are these trees on your property and did your have to pay them for the work?
Why were these two being worked on? Did your already pay them out is the one person returning to finish the job?

@RubyHawk we had a tree taken down some years ago but split the cost with my neighbor. We also got a discount because they found a butter for the trunk. But they made a mess in our lawn in back with their heavy trucks.
I took videos of the process.

@MarshaMusselman That would make a mess of your yard. All that heavy equipment.

It is weird when they do that. The landscape here is similar to what you have posted. Some of the trees are a bit larger though. We have some big ones.I have one behind my house that is probably 150 years old or maybe more.

Yikes! Did they cut the trees because of fire hazard, or--?

I wonder why they left it? Maybe it will grow new branches?

@JamesHxstatic I’m not sure but I don’t believe they will. I’ll watch to see what happens.
