Suddenly I am asked to format my memory card

I had clicked a few photos yesterday strolling in the garden and I was eagerly getting them uploaded in my computer and then I get a message I need for format my memory card and that meant cleaning the memory card in toto. I did it and I lost quite a few of the photos I had clicked. I miss the one I had clicked of Peppie sleeping under the Peltophorum tree looking cool and when he looked at me with a gentle meow I clicked him. I have written a post on that but could not post a photo there . I went there this morning to see if the guy was there but looks like he has picked another cool spot. What photos have you lost due to technical reasons? Image credit:https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SD_Cards.svg

When transferring file, I tend to lose some, but I have emailed myself copies, so I can retrieve them there, and have less worries.

It is always a frustrating problem to lose the data. You can try to use a software to recovery the lost data. Usually it can work. Good luck!

@allknowing No, I have tried it many times. Even if the data was formatted, it was no problem to recover it.

@youless Which software did you use. I have already used it after formatting. Will that hamper?

When you get the formatting message for an SD card on the camera, it means that there is a malfunction. Sometimes taking out the card and re-inserting is enough to fix the problem. I never lost photos, as I do not reformat, I insert the card in the computer card reader and I copy the photos before reformatting.

Not on the camera - message is seen after it is inserted in the reader for downloading the photos in the computer. Glad to know you have never formatted your memory card. Lucky you I have formatted it several times Many here have done formatting

@allknowing - I always wait before formatting, sometimes the reader does not read it correctly I remove and insert again. After I recover all the photos I format, but using the camera, not the computer.

As long as you have scope to retake photos all is fine

That's sad. Why do you use memory cards by the way, why not use the phone's internal memory itself. It tends to be more robust.
