Big, beautiful bellows

Last night, we went out for dinner with our son. It was a Middle Eastern restaurant, and the food was very acceptable although I’m not really into spicy foods and/or unusual flavours. However, there was plenty of choice and I enjoyed the meal. But what I really loved was the décor, especially this huge pair of bellows which were on one wall. They were probably about a metre/yard long and intricately decorated. But being me, I had to wonder why are they called a ‘pair’ of bellows? I guess maybe for the same reason we say ‘a pair of scissors’ or ‘a pair of trousers’.

Those are beautiful, the bellow needs two parts to work, this is why it's "a pair" same for scissors and same for trousers and shoes.

Yes, I guess that's the explanation. I've never seen bellows with so much ornamentation on them.

@JudyEv - I have seen them in Morocco, when we visited years ago. They are pretty decorated also here in Switzerland

@1creekgirl He hasn't been so good the last couple of days. I'll be quite glad to get back to our own doctor. He keeps getting a racing pulse and chest pains but all the tests say we shouldn't worry about it. But you can't help but worry.

sounds like all in all a good time was had. They are certainly intricate. I like Middle Eastern restaurnts, but haven't been to one in a long time. One thing I did not like though was the Ethiopian restaurant I went to about a year ago. Firstly, they were out of the menu items I most wanted to order, and secondly..eating with my hands was not something I enjoyed. They wouldn't even offer silverware....I understand it is there culture, but not mine.

In the middle of Nepal somewhere on the way to Lumbini, we stopped for a meal and everyone was eating with their hands. But we were given cutlery. There were sinks just outside where everyone could wash their hands after eating.

@snowy22315 You'd think they'd offer you cutlery. Dozens of people wouldn't want to eat with their fingers.

The bellows are lovely... I will eat a little of unknown foods but if they're too spicy or too hot, I'm done eating.

@JudyEv My tummy would love spicier foods but since I had rectal cancer, that end of me won't be happy if I eat anything too spicy.

@DaddyEvil I guess sometimes you really yearn for something with a bit more flavour.

My tummy gets upset pretty easily if there is too much spice, etc. It's easier just to stick with blander foods.
