Day 282
(Proverbs 14:21) He who despises his neighbor sins; but he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he.
It’s hard to get ahead. People look down on low-income people and pass them over for good-paying jobs because they believe they’re poor because they don’t have the intellect to get a good job. However, nothing could be furthest from the truth. Just because a person is poor, doesn’t mean he’s stupid.
Solomon said it was a sin to despise poor people. Happiness comes when you have mercy on them.
As Christians, you are all equal in God’s eyes. He is no respecter of people. God sees the heart of the person, whether they are good or bad. He also sees how you treat people. Do you give favor to those with wealth, and disregard those with low income?
James saw how Christians treated each other.
(James 2:1-7) My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality. For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes, and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, “You sit here in a good place,” and say to the poor man, “You stand there,” or, “Sit here at my footstool,” have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? But you have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into the courts? Do they not blaspheme that noble name by which you are called?
Since God isn’t partial, you shouldn’t be either. Treat everyone the way you want to be treated, with respect.
Let’s pray: Father, help me treat everyone the way You treat everyone, without partiality, with respect. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
