Does my coffee taste like coffee?

Coffee flavour

I usually buy freshly roasted whole coffee beans that I grind to make my coffee. One thing that amused me is that coffee seems more complicated than just being coffee - every coffee beans brand or type I buy, has an elaborate description of its source and also the taste, aftertaste and mouthfeel. The writing keeps me entertained. At the end of the cup, to me it's coffee! I can never appreciate all those complex flavours and tastes in the description!! My present coffee has this description: "A creamy, buttery blend with delicate citrus notes that exhibits enchanting aromas of raisins & orange peel. It has a rich, smooth mouthfeel & a lingering aftertaste of chocolate." It's just good coffee, my friend!!

Somebody got paid good money to make all that up, though.

@DaddyEvil but if I get paid money, repetitiveness is ok!

Reading that description it looks more like a blend than pure coffee. I am a tea drinker and do not like blends. But I can differentiate one tea from another. Tea comes from different valleys and they do have a different taste.

It looks like a blend of different beans, but is pure coffee. There were no added flavours.

@pitstop They should have mentioned that but instead they are talking of flavours such as orange peel.

I've always wondered if all those elaborate descriptions I see of different coffee beans were true and tried to imagine it

That is marketing. I like coffee beans not too dark, lightly roasted and NOT oily.

@pitstop Light roast for me with no oil on the surface of the beans.
