How’s this for a place setting?

This place setting is in the dining room in Kylemore Castle. I don’t know who had the plates inscribed. Maybe it’s for the tourists as the plate in the photo has birth and death dates on it and the Henrys were long gone by 1904.
There is another plate which states that Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s 7th child, Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, visited in 1887.
When the Henrys owned the house, guests were given a buttonhole of violets to wear to dinner. Violets were a craze in Victorian London and represented loyalty and friendship.
Notice the number of glasses on the table and imagine having a drink from all of those. You'd be on your ear in no time. Do you know that phrase - on your ear?

No, I've never heard or read that phrase before. It is interesting, though.
I would have to watch someone else while they're eating to know what each piece is for...

I'm glad I'm just a farm boy. Unless you really messed up at the dinner table, mom wouldn't make you leave the table until you were full.

I'm supposing one of them is for water... and I don't count the finger bowl.

@JudyEv Actually when I think about it, there are a few sayings regarding body parts isn't there?
Getting the boot, pain in the a$$, giving someone the finger, ripping someone a new one.....quite a list and I am sure that there are more. That would be a fun post.
