Walking the Cat: Seriously?!?

Some of you probably take your kitties for walks on the streets. I've never seen somebody walk their whiskers in my nation. Naturally, I only see people walking their dogs here. I worry that I might be able to do this with my cat if I have one. I'm worried that dogs in the area will chase her. Do you think it is important to walk your pet daily? Which is preferable: a cat or dog, or a 'simple pet' like a goldfish? Image Credit: static01.nyt.com

If it's possible to walk it daily yes it just depends with one's schedule and also it's dangerous to walk cats due to the fierceness of the dogs

It could be dangerous if stray dogs are lurking around. If it does happen, I will report the owners for letting them out. In my city, it is not allowed if they are not leashed.

@Shavkat that's a good initiative here we have stray dogs Al I've r at some point the county government usually poisons them so as to reduce their population. It's so sad

Yes something not done here as well. I see cats as very independent and do not want to be leashed. They would usually go on their own and enjoys being free to roam around the area.

@Shavkat I guess if the cat was trained to be on a leash this would not be an issue with the cat any more.

I also think that some cats will be agitated if leashed. I cannot imagine chasing it while the dogs are chasing her.

It was also the same with my cats in the old house. They can go and play in the yard at any time. However, they are gone now.

I have seen people walking their cats, usually those who live in an apartment, it's a way to let the kitty enjoy the outside without risking that the poor thing runs away and gets killed by a car. I prefer cats, they are independent and I let my cat go out in the garden, no need to take care of walking my cat.

It is also the same thing here. Some owners let them loose and play around the garden. They might go to other houses, but they know where to go back. I hope they will not steal food in the neighborhood.

@Shavkat - Cats are well fed by their owners here, they do not steal food. We all have a bowl of clean water and some dry cat food outside the door, to greet the "guest cats".

I have seen others walking their cats. Whatever works for them is fine with me. My two cats stay indoors and seem very happy.

I had a cat before but never dared to walk him around the neighborhood. But he loves to be in the yard, catching birds. So sad. I lost him when we moved to another place.

I have seen a couple of people walk their cat but it is a very rare occurrence. I have two cats, and I don't think they would like me to take them for a walk. If the cat wants to do it, I don't see any reason not to. My step-daughter used to take her pet bird out of walks. The bird would be on a lead, wouldn't fly off, and would mostly either walk in front or sit on someone's shoulder. As for a preferable pet, that depends what you want from a pet. I have cats. They can be annoying but they're mostly easy. As long as they have food, water, warmth, and a clean litter tray, they don't care if people are here or not. I wouldn't mind having smaller pets - fish, small birds, tiny turtles. I'm too lazy for any creature that's more effort that feeding it and looking at it!

That's cute! I've only seen birds being taken out in movies. In China, most kids have these easy pets. For the reason that they do not have enough time to take good care of dogs, cats, etc. They are always loaded with homework. I would rather have a cat or dog in my house than them.

I may if it is on a leash. But my cats walk themselves every day whenever I'm out with my grandbaby for a nearby stroll, they are out too, frolicking on the pavement. The neighbors' dogs barked at them but they just stare back and go on with their activity. BTW, the dogs are confined in their dog houses.

In my city, we do have an ordinance that says all dogs should be leashed. If it happens that they are not, they will surely be impounded. However, there are still some owners who let their dogs out of their houses.

It is also the same scenario here. No one would want to walk their cats in the neighborhood, especially the ones with breeds. Speaking walking the dog, I have not tried to let my puppy to walk around here yet. I am waiting him to turn one-year-old.

If I do have one, I am uncomfortable to let be alone outside. Unless if they are feral cats, they can survive despite being by stray dogs.

I wouldn't walk my cat here because of stray dogs. But some areas are safer

I also noticed that most neighborhoods in my city have stray dogs. So it is not advisable to walk their cats. But then, stray cats are so abundant, and the city officials are only focusing on pounding stray dogs.

I was thinking that it is safer to walk the cat in a park than in the neighborhood. I also think it is cool to do it.
