Day 290 (Proverbs 22:9) He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he gives his bread to the poor. You hear a lot about famous people who give generous donations to various organizations supporting those in need. They have the means to give generously to every cause that can give them notoriety. You don’t hear about people who give out of the generosity of their heart when they don’t have as much to give yet do so anyway. Solomon said blessings come to those who give generously to those in need. You see the same display of generosity among Christians. Those who have a lot to give make a fanfare of their giving. While those who give with a generous heart without fanfare will receive greater blessings. In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus told the people how they should give to those in need. (Matthew 6:1-4) Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise, you have no reward from your Father in heaven. Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you do a charitable deed do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. Your blessings are dependent on the state of your heart when you give to those in need. Generosity is of the heart, not the hand. Let’s pray: Father, give me a generous heart to help those in need. Let Your blessings fall on me because I love You and seek Your will for my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 30 April 2023 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

Many a pastor has told me the needy parishioners give their 10%, while the wealthy (and some members of the clergy) barely give their 5%. We are all supposed to give 10%, and not necessarily entirely in money. Works are a part of it, too.

That's true. Yes, when I can't give, I give time. Though God has been faithful. I always give my tithe. Have a blessed day.
