Clam chowder for dinner.

I opened up a can of clam chowder and warmed it up. The clam chowder was pretty good, but I would like to try and find some clam chowder made from scratch one of these days. I am going to try and find a restaurant pretty soon that would serve some clam chowder that would come close to being made from scratch. I would like to see what the difference between the clam chowder from a can and that made in the restaurant.

I only cook from scratch or accept invitations to very good restaurants. I would not be able to eat from a can. Do you know that there are awesome step by step meals online you can make?

@Scrapper88 I like to eat well but don´t have the money to go to the expensive restaurants. And I don´t like to dine there alone either. So I make my own meals with the best ingredients. And even that way it is much cheaper.

I prefer things homemade too. Especially when it comes to soups, the only thing I ever use canned for are fillers. Like cream soups and tomato soups that go into other dishes. I can't remember the last time I opened a can of soup and just ate it.

Honestly, if you have a good potato soup recipe, use that. Cut the potatoes in really small cubes. When it's about done, add the chopped clams. Clam Chowder is basically a potato soup without the cheese, with the clams.

That's actually a good point. My creamy potato soup recipe and clam chowder recipe is almost identical with the exception of the clam juice from the cans of clams I use and of course, the clams.

@porwest The only difference basically is the clams/clam juice. Some people put a bit of Old Bay seasoning or similar in their clam chowder, but not me. I prefer the classic and basic one, it's the best. Here we are on Keith's post, I have been wondering why he is not ever here. I hope he's OK!

I love clam chowder, I just wish whomever made it, restaurant or factory, wouldn’t include so many chunky bits of potatoes. More clams, less potato!

I kind of like the potatoes in the clam chowder.

@Scrapper88 I think I just always get the kind of clam chowder that skimps on the other stuff.

When I make my homemade clam chowder I definitely make sure there are plenty of clams in it. I mean, after all, it's CLAM chowder. Not POTATO chowder. lol

The brand of clam chowder is from Progresso. I believe I got it from Wal-Mart.

Hope you get to taste one made from scratch soon. I have never tasted them. But I bet that like any other food, the ones that is home made and made from scratch would taste better.

I love clam chowder. I make it at home all the time. It's not all that hard to make either, and always fills the bill.
