A field of Dandelions

I was fascinated by this image - a field of Dandelions and felt like sharing it with you. We do not have Dandelions here but reading through posts at myLot I notice most consider them as weeds and that being the case I wonder why would anyone take time to create a field of Dandelions. That field must have been a sight worth visiting as an expanse of yellow is so soothing to the eyes. Why would anyone grow Dandelions? Image Credit:

The seeds spread in the wind so easily you can't normally keep them from growing. You usually have to buy a special spray that kills them, and keeps them from spreading further. If they land and grow in an area no one cares about then no one will bother to get rid of them.

@allknowing It's hard to explain without posting a picture, but there could be, like one field over from the land in this picture, land full of seed heads. Have you seen how dandelions start? As "flower looking seed heads"? As the wind catches them, seeds from just one " flower" scatter everywhere over a concentrated area. As children, we picked them, and then blew, scattering the seeds into the wind. They spread in a field like weeds. Certainly if a person wanted to they could try to design a field of dandelions. But never have I ever heard of someone deliberately making a field of them. Altbough, they DO have benefits. I'm sure other mylotters will explain this a lot better later.

@AmbiePam Difficult to believe that they create such organised fields but since you know so much about them I tend to believe

Dandelions are weeds, the seeds are very light and spread in the wind. I have to pull out dandelions from the vegetable gardens all the time. I think that no one grows dandelions, but if you do not pull them out regularly, after a couple of years they cover the lawn.

It is sad that something which otherwise is beneficial gets the name weeds.

@allknowing Those are not only weeds, they are considered invasive weeds. Dandelions cause serious economic damage, as an invasive species and infestation of other crops. Volunteers are trained to remove the plant from the roadsides.

I think i have seen one in NY during my trip there on springtime. Everything was blooming there and there were dandelions on the garden of my sister and she said it was not a plant but a weed that grows in her lawn every now and then.

They can give a small corner for these beautiful flowers in their garden.

@allknowing My sister just let them grow anywhere in her lawn and it gives a good effect seeing this tiny yellow flowers sprouting over her green lawn.

I just run them over with my lawn mower or chop them down with my weed eater.

In Australia, you don't grow them but they just grow themselves.

I think that is the case with US as well but this field looked as though they are cultivated.

Dandelions are very common here but they seem not to have so many flowers as well as the image.

Therefore I feel what we see in the image was cultivated and not wild

But many think they are and I agree with you. They are useful and are not weeds
