The Westminster Kennel Club dog show concluded Tuesday night with a petit basset griffin Vendeen (PBGV) named Buddy Holly taking home the Best In Show Trophy. Named after the Rock and Roll legend who died in a plane crash in 1959, Buddy was described as being a showman from start to finish. It is the first time a dog of his breed has ever won. In second place was - Rummie , a pekingese. Getting a dog ready and putting one out for a competition like this could run into tens of thousands of dollars - yet there is no cash prize. The winner receives a Westminster, Legend Trophy which is a hand engraved crystal bowl. Would you spend that much to enter your dog in that most prestigious competition? Even if he doesn't win he might score a movie roll. Read about the winners in the link.https://apnews.com/article/westminster-dog-show-hound-terrier-herding-nonsporting-91a512ae2a279d780187637b3dae1e05

There were other crowd favorites too - like the bloodhound that bowed deeply to the judge.

That seems crazy to me to spend so much money for bragging rights only. Cute name for a dog though Buddy Holly!

@Kandae11 wow so the chances of their dogs winning was incredibly low! Where does all the money from this competition go towards do you know?

@shaggin l don' t think the money goes to the organisers - maybe some of it. Most of it goes into the preparation of the dogs l think.

Twenty five hundred dogs participated and there could be only l winner. I suppose some dog owners simply like the idea of their dog being on show - while hoping to win of course.

He's a cutie...love the name. Someone I know shows dogs. It is more work than people realize. She takes her dogs to specialized classes...to learn how to strut their stuff.

Some trainers are also part owners but it is an expensive exercise.

I suppose it is more the pride of willing than getting any money

That's a very cute little dog. I don't think I could be bothered with all the hype.

Yes there is quite a bit of hype which the participants seem to love.

I have heard of this dog show but I never watched it. I never had an interest to watch it. I am a dog owner but just don't think I would watch the dog show

I couldn’t imagine spending that much money, but people really take pride in that type of thing. They certainly are cute though.

Yes they are. They gave him that name because he acts like a real buddy.

Winning a movie role would be worth it. Otherwise, I wouldn't pay that much for a show that doesn't have a money prize.
