Memories from 1998

In 1998, Vince and I went to Luxor, Egypt, to attend the wedding of our niece to a Muslim man. At the time, this created a huge upheaval in the strongly-Catholic family. This all happened just after a busload of tourists were attacked by terrorists. To cut a long story short, the couple have been, and still are, very happy. The four children have all been born in Australia and have done very well at school and university.
While going through some photos, I came across these that I thought might interest you. Before the wedding, a street party was held and the guy on the left was one of the musicians. The man with the turkey was on the street one day and happily posed for a photo.

@JudyEv When my husband and I married some were fearful for us being an interracial couple.

@Tampa_girl7 I'm sure back then many people were concerned about such unions. My friend was spat on in the streets of Los Angeles because she was walking with a black man. That was probably in the late 1960s.

Yes, in our country, previously the war between Christians (Catholics, Protestants) and Muslims escalated to guerrilla warfare, and it has created a division between the two on the third island of our country. Things got better now, but there are still a few occurrences that happen because of these religious beliefs.
They could prove that the union of both religions could also succeed, and for that, I salute them.

Very interesting photos. There was a time that it was very dangerous to travel to Egypt. I'm glad your niece and her husband are happy.

I'm glad that they are still happily married.
The musical instrument held by the musician looks interesting.

It has been a successful marriage despite the parents being so worried at the beginning.

I am glad their marriage worked out and that they are happy. I sure hope that man was not going to kill that poor turkey,
