The latest renovation project

I seem to have a never-ending stream of renovation projects of one sort or another. I’m certainly no expert and I don’t really have the patience to do the job as it should ideally be done, but on the other hand I can’t bear to throw anything useful away! Here I have a dining chair. A table and four chairs was actually made by my Dad for his mother, but after she died he got it back. However we already had a dining table that my Mum had inherited from her parents, so Dad’s set went into a shed and stayed there for about 35 years. And in that time the shed itself started to fall apart! So now I have this set and decided to keep it. It would be easier just to buy something new, but these are solid oak and of course have sentimental value. All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2023.

There are YouTube videos that show step by step how to renovate those chairs. I know it's not easy, but my Mum did and she was already 75 when she did. I am sure you can.

I actually did an evening class in furniture restoration a few years ago, I learned some useful techniques there.

@Fleura The father of my Dad was a carpenter, but he was specialized in vintage furniture restoration. I have to say that my mother did a good job.

Hopefully you can find some material that you like. We have redone a few chairs similar to this one. It’s not difficult.

Solid oak is impressive, even if it wasn’t made by family, but of course it being family makes it irreplaceable. I hope you can figure out how to restore it to its former glory.

Nice simple design. And it looks as if some critters taste-tested the seat cushion. I've been "renovating" my yard, very slowly...

Same here,I still keep several pieces of furniture that my parents used and frequently stroke them.At the sight of them,I feel as if I saw my parents.
