Day 310 (Ecclesiastes 4:13-16) Better a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king who will be admonished no more. For he comes out of prison to be king, although he was born poor in his kingdom. I saw all the living who walked under the sun; they were with the second youth who stood in his place. There was no end to all the people over whom he was made king, yet those who come afterward will not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and grasping for the wind. When life looks bleak and makes no sense, you wonder what there is to be happy about. Even rulers have nothing to commend themselves for. Everything looks hopeless. Solomon saw the futility of life and called it grasping for the wind. Poor rulers over an endless number of people brought no joy to the king or the people. What was there to rejoice over? As Christians, you see life around you and wonder what’s the use. Why should you continue when everything looks hopeless? Yet, for all the trouble, there is hope. Not everything is futile and grasping at the wind. With Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you can look to Him for answers and His plans for your life. You will always find one more person you can talk to about the love of Jesus Christ. When you do, you instill hope so that it is no longer grasping at the wind. Then you will rejoice because God is your hope. He provided a Savior to bring you out of bondage. Jesus’ blood breaks Satan’s chains. You are no longer in bondage. Life is no longer futile. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for giving me hope in a futile world. When I feel hopeless with everything going on around me, remind me of the hope I have in Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 19 May 2023 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

We should never allow feelings of hopelessness to take root - God is in our corner.
