Terrible Tooth Ache

I don't know how or why, but for a couple of days, I have had some minor discomfort on and off in one of my teeth.
Today, after coming home and going out with the dogs, I came in to fix a light snack and a glass of ice water. Before I could enjoy either, pain exploded in my lower left jaw and some even in my upper left jaw.
I haven't any OTC toothache relief at home, so have fallen back on the tried and true ice pack. It is helping.
I looked up other home remedies and found 3 I like.
1 is a saltwater rinse. Safe and easy.
2 is liquor-soaked cotton balls. I have 100-proof rum on hand. This seems promising.
3 is to dab the painful area with natural vanilla extract.
These may get me through tonight. I made an appointment with my dentist for tomorrow morning. I shudder to think what he might find.
Have you had any recent dental problems that couldn't wait?

I was having tooth pain one time, but no way was I going to go in on an emergency basis, and pay those kinds of fees, by the time Monday rolled around...it was better...such is the way of tooth pain it seems. Better to go to the dentist and bite the bullet though.

@DWDavis Even so, you undoubtedly would have to pay more for an emergency visit. You would be super lucky if it was fully covered.

I’m so so sorry you’re in pain. Salt water might help. I once had a dental problem, my gums were shrinking from my teeth. The dentist intend to scrape my gums but before my appointment someone told me about salt water. I continually washed out my mouth with salt water. When I went for my appointment the dentist looked at my mouth and said I didn’t need the surgery.

I hope you're feeling better quickly and the dentist finds something easily fixed tomorrow.
Last December I was flossing when the floss seemed to catch on something. I kept trying to work it loose but nothing I did worked. I pulled straight up and broke a rear molar. The dentist got me in the same day, decided the tooth couldn't be saved so pulled it.

@DWDavis I have two crowns but have never had one of them come loose. I hope it's an easy fix, too.

Thank heavens my teeth are not perfect but they do not cause me pain. I hope you get through the night and best of luck to you tomorrow,

I don't think recent, and I hope my six month checkup on Thursday shows nothing either. But I do remember waking up at midnight a couple of years ago, and the pain was so bad I drove to an all night grocery store to buy every toothache remedy (that wasn't a pill) available. Nothing helped, so as soon as the offices opened I called and made an appointment at the dentist.
Hopefully, whatever problem you have, is not terribly expensive to solve!
