His Pride and Joy

I asked my dad to send me a picture of the plant his wife put him in charge of a long time ago, and this is it. He wants it to get big enough to start growing around the curtain rods, and his earnestness makes my heart smile. He's just never been one to pay attention to nature despite growing up in the country, and being saturated in it. After being married to Diana for a few years, he now points out various birds for her to see from the picture window in their kitchen, and eagerly anticipates their bountiful blackberry bush thriving enough to give them bushels of fruit. Diana said she thinks this is an English Ivy. You plant aficionados would be able to tell me for sure.

It does look like the English Ivy I have growing in my kitchen. They're pretty plants. I keep winding mine around and around in the large pot I planted it in.

@DaddyEvil I'm telling you I'd find a way to accidentally kill it. It's a curse.

@AmbiePam It is easy to grow, just stick it in the dirt and add water. Mine is trying to climb out of the pot again.

If its ivy it will grow no matter what you do to it. I have a huge issue outside with ivy and I don't know how to get rid of it.

Sshh...don't tell my dad. And I have to tell you that if you let me near your ivy, I'd find a way to kill it. I can't keep anything but a dog alive.

@sallypup If someone found a sure fire way to get rid of it that didn't harm the surrounding greenery, I can't imagine how much money they'd make.

@AmbiePam There is ivy trying to grow into my front porch. Nasty. Ivy has totally grown around a lovely tree out front. I'm not delighted with the stuff.

It looks like a philodendron to me, be careful it is poisonous to cats and dogs, because it contains calcium oxalate.

Okay, thank you. They don’t have any pets, but I have a dog that sometimes visits.

@AmbiePam Usually dogs do not chew plants, but keep an eye on your dog when you visit.

It looks like the Indian money plant but I am not sure. I love flower bushes more than creepers.

Well, it's getting big. Not an ivy expert though unfortunately. Maybe today is the day I will get my succulent re potted It needs it desperately.

It's an ivy indeed but not sure what type. It would look "pretty" when I will wind itself on the window shafts.

It is a pretty plant, you should ask him if you can have a slip and start your own and get it growing for comparison.

That sounds a very logical guess but hopefully someone else will verify it. And it's so nice that your Dad is trying so hard to nurture his own special plant.

I have seen those plants but I don't know what they're called. As we get older we tend to change how we perceive the world around us
