The 'eyebrow flash,' which is a swift lifting of the eyebrows, is a common greeting among Filipinos. Some people will find it weird, but it is always a cultural thing. I do think that they have their own ways of greeting others, whether they are strangers or not. Sometimes Filipinos point at something by protruding their lips.
Are there any gestures that are common in your country?

That is interesting and I would miss them all because I would not notice and if I did I would not know what it means. No wonder people always say rude Americans.

@AmbiePam I was born in Missouri and lived there first 10 years of my life, but you are right this place has corrupted me. I often wonder what I would be like if I just stayed there.
I have been through Oklahoma and never really stopped to talk to people but imagine its similar to Missouri and Kansas and you are right very nice people and a lot more polite than the average California person.

@crossbones27 I do think you have your own way to greet people out there. I wondered why some people would think that way about Americans.

People smile and nod at each other where I live. I wouldn't recognize a lifted eyebrow as anything except a facial "tic" and hope the person was feeling okay.

@Shavkat I don't know if it's an excuse or not... Sometimes, when I am stressed, my lower or upper eyelid will twitch for a few minutes involuntarily.
