Day 321 (Isaiah 11:10 - 12:6) “And on that day there will be a Root of Jesse, who will stand as a banner to the people; for the Gentiles will seek Him, and His resting place will be glorious.” It will come to pass on that day that the Lord will set His hand again the second time to recover the remnant of His people who are left, from Assyria and Egypt, from Pathros and Cush, from Elam and Shinar, from Hamath and the islands of the sea. He will set up a banner for the nations and will assemble the outcasts of Israel and gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. Also, the envy of Ephraim will depart, and the adversaries of Judah will be cut off. Ephraim will not envy Judah, and Judah will not harass Ephraim. But they will fly down upon the shoulder of the Philistines toward the west. Together they will plunder the people of the East. They will lay their hands on Edom and Moab, and the people of Ammon will obey them. The LORD will destroy the tongue of the Sea of Egypt. With His mighty wind, He will shake His fist over the river, strike it in the seven streams, and make men cross over dry-shod. There will be a highway for the remnant of His people who will be left from Assyria, as it was for Israel on the day that he came up from the land of Egypt. And on that day, you will say: “O LORD, I will praise You; though You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, and You comfort me. Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘for YAH, the LORD is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’” Therefore, with joy, you will draw water from the wells of salvation. And on that day, you will say: “Praise the LORD, call upon His name; declare His deeds among the peoples, make mention that His name is exalted. Sing to the LORD, for He has done excellent things; this is known in all the earth. Cry out and shout, O inhabitant of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst!” What makes you happy? What gives you hope? Why do you go about with a smile on your face and a spring in your step? Amid God’s judgment on the nations, Isaiah gave Israel hope and a reason for joy. He reminded the people that though God was angry with His people, it wouldn’t last. He told the people God was their salvation and they could draw water from the wells of salvation. He told the people where their hope came from, the Root of Jesse, who stood as a banner for His people. Therefore, they could praise Him and call on His name. As Christians, your hope is in Jesus Christ. You have a well of life-giving water deep in your soul because you accepted Jesus as your Savior and Lord. You draw life-giving water whenever you read God’s Word, spend time in prayer, helping those in need, and praising God, worshiping Him for who He is and what He did for you. He is YAH, the Lord Jehovah from whom you get your strength. Why are you happy? Where does your hope come from? Why is the joy of the LORD covering your face? Because Jesus called you by name and made you His child. He saved you from the chains of death Satan wrapped you in and set you free to praise Him. Therefore, you should always have the joy of the LORD covering you as a mantle. So, shout, praise the Lord because He is your God, and you are His child. Let’s pray: Father, let Your joy fill me to overflowing because You sent Your Son, Jesus, to be my Savior. You called me by name and called me Your child. Fill my mouth with Your praise every moment of the day and night. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 30 May 2023 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
