We Purchased Household Appliances

Our friend Jim warned us that the prices of household appliances will be going through the ceiling. So Jay decided it's high time we purchase them, before this happens. Whenever we get the house built, these are necessary items that we will need. I never gave it much thought, at this early a time. Yet, selecting appliances was a step forward. We won't be picking them up for another couple months. So, Jay has plenty of time to frame in the residence, a place for them to be stored. We will be hooked up to natural gas, by that time. At least one step in the right direction has been taken. Today, Jay and Brad S. are measuring out the property, deciding which trees need to be cleared off. In return, Jay will give this lumber to Brad, as a payment for these services. Do I actually comprehend what's going on? No, I had myself fooled there for a minute, also! I've never had a home built before, this is all done in a foreign dialect that I don't speak or understand. All I can do is trust in God, to get this done before winter sets in:) Oh yah, we also purchased a furnace, it will come in handy when the Michigan temperatures drop below zero, in January-March of 2024. Photo: Our lot that I took a picture of.

Its good that Jay can barter with Brad with lumber for his services. Hope it all goes smoothly and the build will be done in a timely manner.

Both of these men are very honest, that's what counts the most. And with bartering, they both end up with what they need:)

@Marilynda1225 If someone is only concerned about their own financial gain, it's impossible to do business with them.

I like your space there it looks cozy and promising. Is your house going to be all wood, brick, or a combination? Where is your electricity coming from are there electric lines nearby? Just curious,

Electricity runs past this lot, we just pay for a hookup. The home is still undecided, how it will look. Neither one of us want a brick house, probably all wood with vinyl siding.

@kobesbuddy I got curious about home building and how people manage. I found this and thought it was quite a good idea when building your own.

Building a house from scratch is just tough. There are often things that just come up that you have to deal with, and are unexpected. And unfortunately, many things can cost more than you think they will. Hey, do you have a salvage type of business somewhere within driving distance? There are a few here..they have things like cabinets and bathroom sinks, etc at a lot lower price than you can get elsewhere. Also, if you have access to a Habitat for Humanity store, ours has a huge area of household supplies--and often, even though they are donated to them, are new with tags. They are just discontinued items.. They always have things like ceiling fans, plumbing items, new windows, etc. Just an idea for you. I dearly love a bargain if I can make it work well.

I imagine a person would tend to think of it constantly until they start to see the project begin for themselves. If it were me, I'd probably drive everyone crazy asking about the progress every day. It's also a great idea to get the appliances now.

I know better than to ask Jay questions, 'when will this happen?' He would bite my head off! As long as we have a roof over our heads, it really doesn't matter to me. God has always provided us with a home, regardless of anything else.

Thanks, if the home is livable, that's all I care about at this time. If it's not what I like best, it doesn't really matter any more.

I agree that it was smart to buy them now, when the prices are as low as they’ll be AND you have the “guarantee” (such as it is) of having the items, should another “parts shortage” pop up.

Your lot for your new home is beautiful. I am glad you got the appliances taken care of before prices go up. A friend of ours built their home. He, his dad, and brother all worked on it after the contractors set the foundation and built the walls for them. He was able to save a lot by doing the majority of the work himself.

Jay and I will be finishing the inside projects, by ourselves. Once the foundation is laid, things will go a bit faster than at this present time.
