What age do you start your kids doing dishes?

I have a soon to be 12yr old and a 7 yr old. We have a dish washer. I was thinking that I would start making them do dishes every other night. Have the 7 yr old unload them and the 12 yr old load the dish washer. Do you think they are to young to start this? I think I was about 14 yrs when my mother started us doing dishes.

I have a 7 year old and I won't let her put them away because she can't reach the cabinets. It would just be asking for broken dishes. I do make her put her dishes in the dishwasher when she's finished with them though. I think I may have started a little later helping out.

I thought about that too!! Breaking dishes because she can't reach that high. I guess I could just have her help put them in and put the low stuff up. My son will love me for this! HA
